Oh, I am so sorry!! This comment is for several people here. I have non-diabetic polyneuropathy and a couple of cervical spine fusions, which may or may not be related. I have been treating neuropathy with medications for over a decade, and none of the pharmaceuticals provide enough relief to make it worth the horrible side effects.
I get the most relief from eliminating the foods known to irritate nerves (gluten, dairy, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, brown rice) and taking supplements like (NAC, 5-HTP, Co-Q10, R-ALA, magnesium glycinate) and natural herbal remedies that support and calm the central nervous system and help nerves recover (tinctures of milky oat, ashwagandha, ginkgo, gotu kola, hops, and California poppy).
I use NOW Solutions magnesium chloride flakes for burning in hands and feet and for sensitive, tender areas of skin. Magnesium chloride has a higher magnesium level and is more readily absorbed than the magnesium sulfite of Epsom Salt. The easiest way to use it is by filling a spritzer bottle half full of magnesium flakes and then filling the bottle with room-temperature filtered or distilled water. Spray it on, rub it in, absorb it for 20 minutes, and then rinse it off. The magnesium needs 20 minutes to absorb. After that, leaving it on has very little benefit and is pretty sticky. You can also add magnesium chloride to your bath or a foot soak.
Other things to address the neuropathy include PT weekly (for 13 years), regular chiropractic adjustments (activator method only), and acupuncture. I do moderate exercise as tolerated, use Indica edibles for sleep, and take a very low dose of Gabapentin as needed (100-200mg), and occasionally 5mg of oxycodone when I can't take it anymore.
I am always looking for better tools and have an appointment with another new neurologist next week.
I have terrible nerve pain, in neck arm leg foot hand and eye n head. All mainly on left side except for my neck.
I had neck surgery years ago and I have 6screws, 2 plates and 2 rods. I can't tolerate this awful pain and numbness in hand and foot.
Gabapentin not working. What should I do, can't take ibuprofen have ulcerative colitis 😭

Hi. My primary care doctor does not want me to see a Neurologist. Don't get it. I have pain, burning and pins and needles in both legs and feet. Take 300mg Gabapentin 3 times a day with very results. Also have PAD in both legs with my left being extremely bad. Hoping my Cardiologist appointment will offer some hope to help relieve me of this terrible pain. Would love to hear from anyone with these conditions. Thank you. Karen
@sassymama3
Good morning,
I have never experienced the cold feelings like you describe. But I do get cold easily.
My Neuropathy was caused by many years of taking the seizure medicine Dilantin. When I first developed symptoms of Neuropathy I went to see a Podiatrist whom I liked very much, He was very honest telling me it is incurable but there was a chance medication might help. I accepted my condition so I never bothered hunting for vitamins He prescribed gabapentin for me in hopes that it would help the Neuropathy symptoms as well as helping my seizures, unfortunately, it had no effect whatsoever, even though I was taking the maximum daily dose of 3,600 mg. There was another man there with neuropathy, but he didn't receive any relief until he was taking the dose of 7,200 mg per day. research has shown that people who don't get relief from gabapentin is because they're not taking a high enough dose. I regret not trying higher doses than 3,600 mg. of Gabapentin.
After seeing my Podiatrist I asked my Neurologist about my feet and he agreed with the Podiatrist.
Take care,
Jake
I am on 900 mg a day and not getting much relief at all. Is it safe to take a much higher dosage per day? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Karen

I am an candidate. Please reach out to me anytime. I suffer from a lower back injury that pinched my lower back causing leg weakness and foot numbness.
Hello @user_ch98d0b5c -- I read from your earlier post that you do not know what the cause is for your peripheral neuropathy. I also have idiopathic small fiber peripheral neuropathy. They suspect hereditary but don't know. You also mentioned you have an upcoming appointment at John Hopkins with Dr. Hoke in September. I know it must be frustrating waiting and wanting some answers.
@user_ch98d0b5c have you found anything that helps with the pain?
I've found that I always wear socks, even at night. I mainly do this because I can't tell if my feet have been injured when I step on something walking around the house. I've found that socks made with bamboo fiber are really soft, stretchy and very easy to put on and take off. I guess they probably wouldn't help you if you can only wear flip flops. Have you tried any kind of shoe that doesn't cause you pain?
I was not sure by the title of your discussion if you were trying to locate members who do not have diabetic neuropathy or that do have diabetic neuropathy?
I use Voltaren on my shoulders for arthritis aches/pain but it doesn't help with the numbness in my feet. I have tried Vick's Vaporub and a few others. I like the LifeFlo Magnesium lotion the best for moisturizing the feet and legs. It does have a calming effect but the numbness is still there.
I developed Peripheral Neuropathy and found 600mg of Gabapentin at bed time keeps it under control. I found that if I need additional help with leg pain to enable sleep at night an aspirin helps. I also noticed that a daily 2 mile walk also helps.

Welcome @caringkaren1, Sorry to hear you haven't found much relief for your neuropathy. There are other members who have mentioned having both PAD and neuropathy. Here's a search of Connect that lists the discussions and comments from the members having both PAD and neuropathy - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/looking-for-people-who-have-high-levels-of-b6-trigger-neuropathy/.
Hoping your cardiologist may be able to offer some treatment suggestions to help with the pain. When is your appointment?
