Mycobacterium Abscessus - clofazimine dosage

Posted by alexmorrison @alexmorrison, Jan 14 1:23pm

Good evening, I'm looking for some advice in regards to clofazimine. My dad, 65, got diagnosed with NTM abscessus in Nov after weeks of high temperatures. He is currently on Linezolid and amikacin and he is awaiting rhe arrival of clofezamine. He is in a hospital in Poland and this drug is not funded but thankfully we managed to source the funding. The problem is the doctors haven't had a case like this before and they are not sure what dose to start him on. Can someone speak through experience to shed some light? He is very poorly with fluid in his lungs so its been a very stressful time. Thanks Alex

@alexmorrison We are not medical professionals here, and providing dosage information is outside the scope of what we can do.

It would be best to have his doctors contact one of the centers of excellence in treating NTM - here are a few options:
National Jewish Health in Denver
Mayo Clinic in Rochester
New York University - Langone.

Perhaps you can do some phone work ahead of time to provide them with direct contact numbers? Also, if you are bilingual, perhaps you can offer to translate if needed?

This document is from a few years ago but still relevant. Good overview as you help your father navigate NTM.
