Thank you @richer for this post. Before loosing sight what were your symptoms? Did you regain your sight with treatment? I do hope so and send you warm wishes for a full recovery.

The doctor asked me about all the possible symptoms and I couldn’t honestly say I recalled having them, but in retrospect I had some bouts of extreme fatigue, and some pain around my ears. But as I told the doctor no pain where I thought I needed pain killers. I also had some muscle aches and suspect PMR. Unfortunately the vision loss is permanent.

I have found that 15 minutes in a steam sauna 3 or 4 times a week helps with relaxation and improves my overall sense of wellbeing, but has not seemed to alter the course of my pmr symptoms. (First attack, age > 70, prednisone at 20 mg started 10 months ago with almost complete relief in 48 hrs, tapering by 2.5 mg/mo to 10 mg, then by 1 mg per month. Flared at 5 mg, resolved with increase to 7 mg, now at 4.5 mg and am tapering by 0.5 mg every 4 to 6 weeks. Still have mild pains in shoulders, about 1/10, but only with exercise and not at rest). Best of luck to you, wish you a lasting remission.

Hello altmed,
It is actually a portable one person steam room called the “Runitude hot sauna.” Does not have a dry heat function so it is not really a sauna. But it is a pleasant way to get steamed up for 20 min or so.
Best,
Mark

During Covid we used the covid money the government sent and to put it back into the economy instead of paying off the home equity loan we bought a sauna kit and made it in the back yard! A Huge expense but it has been the best investment. We use it 3x a week winter in Minnesota and summer! And to the point. It absolutely helps the stiffness and soreness of not only my PMR but my arthritis. Then I go in an ice bath in the bathtub inside. or sit in the snow! Which I thinks helps even more. I have been doing Ice plunges in lakes in the winter and it does wonders!! for my aches and pains and my attitude. I am 78 I have had PMR for 7 years now at 2mg. still trying to get off the prednisone.

This is so awesome! I also purchased a sauna with Covid money I earned as a healthcare provider during the pandemic☺️ Though I take epsom salt baths, the sauna definitely seems to better relieve my pain. I also recently attended a Wim Hof seminar with ice bathing. I think you’re on to something! Thanks for sharing your lifestyle hacks!❤️

I don't know how old you are but I did the Wm Hot breathing and ice bathing. the breathing turned out made me dizzy.. not while doing it but later in the day. I was afraid it was the ice baths but I stopped doing the breathing and it stopped. So ice and sauna are fine for me. I go in the lake a couple times a week! winter here in Minnesota!

I’m 55. Diagnosed at 51. I’m in Montana, so I could lay in the ❄️ snow, but not sure I’m ready for that! lol. I did try sitting in the river this fall, but I’m a bit of a sissy 😂

There is an Epsom salt cream if you are unable to get into baths

Bonnie, here’s me trying the Wim Hof ice bath. I admire your ability to “take the plunge” regularly!
I’m working on it🥶 lol

Not only does a dry sauna help with the symptoms (pain and inflammation) but it does significantly more than that. It help rid the body of toxicity through sweating. None of us will ever know exactly what caused our PMR, we only know what potential causes might be. Too much antibiotic, environmental toxins, innability to detoxify, leaky gut... list goes on and on. The dry sauna was very beneficial to me. Make sure you shower off after you use it...Rinse of the sweat so things to absorb right back into your skin.

The most important thing you can do is completely change what you put into your body.
