3 month follow up

Posted by bdc1677 @bdc1677, 1 day ago

I had my prostate out October 3rd. My three month PSA text came back at .06. Good, but not zero. I realize anything under .1 is considered in remission. I will have it redone in three months.

What was everyone else three and six month PSA?

Mine was < .1 for 3 years after surgery, but they didn’t offer the Ultrasensitive test 12 years ago.

I had NS RARP in 06/2024. At 3 months it was .04 while at 6 months (which was last week) it came back as < .1 Both were done at the same lab, but the psa reports identified that that they were done on different types of machine. The .04 was the bottom of the scale for that machine, while < .1 was the bottom of the scale for the 2nd machine. So as near as I could determine, I believe both my readings translate into some version of "too low to detect". But I'm no medical professional and this is what I gleaned from reading, so I could be wrong. BTW, to see the machine I had to go into the lab portal and choose a different report viewing option as the standard view didn't show the machine used to perform the test. I have no idea if other labs offer similar information. I used Quest lab. Best wishes.

Mine was < .01 3 month test. Every 3 months for the first 3 years and every 6 months for the last two years. all < .01

My two month PSA was < 0.02 via the Quest test. I’ve since been having the Labcorp test and been getting < 0.006.

With a reading of 0.06 at three months post surgery, you have what they call persistent PSA, which means you likely still have cancer somewhere, although without any other details on your pathology and your case in general, it is hard to assess. Good luck to you. You still have other tools in your belt to fight it if you indeed do have persistent PSA.

Your first post RP data point. A first PSA of 0.05 is not ideal, but also not an immediate need for action. Biological Recurrence (BCR) is defined as 0.2. Post surgery pathology, prior Gleason + Decipher, and PSA test sensitivity are data points that your doctors would consider as they monitor future microPSA test results for any potential future doubling time. Time to fully recover from RP and enjoy life.

I too an not a medical professional. The information was really informative. Surely explains why I was told would not get a number below .1 as considered undetecable at Mayo Jacksonville lab and my PCP.

You mentioned other labs and what they can offer in numbers and diferenct type lab machines. That sure helped me understand the differences in what I was reading for post of all those readgins below .1

Per my Mayo PCP Mayo lab uses the .1 as lowest number you will get because their lab indicate anything below that would be considered undetectable.

I did not have my prostate removed or had hormone treatments.
I have my PSA test done at Mayo Jacksonville. My 3 month PSA was .79. The last one was .22 at 1.5 years since radiation. I am not sure my numbers of any importance to you as did not have prostate removed.
Good luck!

@jc76 Thanks. One thing that helped me dive deeper was my brother who's a 30 year PCa survivor of both surgery and extensive radiation just coincidentally happened to get his annual PSA at the same time as my 3 month psa from the same lab. Both of our orders were for just the "standard" psa (not the ultra sensitive one). My brothers psa has been undetectable for decades, and he also got a .004 just like I did. That led me to check on the machines used. When checking on the machines, it appeared that the specific calibration for a given machine will affect where the "floor" is for a given machine. Since I had my brothers .004 from the same lab within a day or 2 of mine, I surmised that .004 was "undectable" for (what I strongly suspect) was the same exact machine calibrated to that level. I don't know, but I suspect even though my lab order was for a "standard" psa, they used an ultra sensitive machine for their own convenience at the 3 month check. At my 6 month check for a "standard" psa, for whatever reason they used a less sensitive machine. I could well be wrong, but it sure fits the data I saw on the 2 lab reports. Meanwhile, at my 3 month visit with the staff Mayo urologist she said < .1 is what they're looking for. I have my 6 month visit later this morning so I'll see what she says this morning. So far, I'm pretty relaxed about it but I'll report back after my televisit in 5 hours.

I had NNS RARP in June of 2024. My first PSA in September was 0.26. Six weeks later it was 0.41. PSMA PET in December showed matastisis to lymph nodes. I am now on Eligard and Xytiga. I start 45 sessions of radiation in April. What a fun 7 months it has been!

Re: the staff Mayo urologist she said < .1 is what they're looking for.

Somebody else in this forum said that Mayo required it to be < .01 to be considered undetectable.

Seem to have a definite conflict of information here, and the fact that you only got one decimal point is puzzling since others at Mayo get three, Including your brother. Sounds like this urologists only requests one digit because they considered it undetectable If below .1.
