Daily Skincare Tips for Dry Skin

Posted by bobbyglen @bobbyglen, Jan 6 11:47pm

Hello
I'm on the hunt for effective daily skincare routines to help manage dry skin, especially during the colder months. What moisturizers, serums, or home remedies have you found helpful? Are there specific brands or ingredients I should look for? Any tips on application or additional steps to enhance moisture retention would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your advice!

Everyone is different, but I like using something my dermatologist recommended to me due to my intermittent psoriasis. It’s not severe, but I try to stay ahead of it with daily applications. For overall body, I use Cerve body cream psoriasis strength. Blue container. I apply after a shower or bath to retain moisture. I also use Cerve under eye cream. On face, cerve daily facial moisturizer with sun screen. On my lower face, chin and neck, firming cream with retinol. In sunny months I wear sunscreen on my body as well. That’s very important. I have no affiliation with this company. Other products may work just as well. I use a mild soap like Ivory.

I’m pleased with things so far and my doctors are too. I try to stay hydrated and eat right.

Vanicream , They have a lotion and a thicker cream in a tub.
When you shower before you pick up a towel, use the thicker cream in the tub Then wrap towel around you and let yourself air dry
Vanicream lite use it on your face and hands.
This is what I was told years ago by a number of doctors.
Wish you the best

@bobbyglen Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I think this is a dilemma many of us face, for varying reasons. Our age, health concerns, where we live, previous lifestyle choices, etc. Sometimes it is trial-and-error finding the best combination that will help us, and there are bound to be several ideas to choose from!

What has worked for me? I use a liquid castile soap as a cleanser. After a shower, using a rich cream to moisturize works in the winter months, a lighter version of the same thing in the summer months. You don't need to take a shower or bath everyday! Give your skin a break. "Pits and bits" cleaning is a good habit daily. Some days I know I need a shower, but the task may feel daunting, so I use a rinse-free alternative [scrubzz.com]

Experiment, and let us know what you find to be the best combination for you, please!

A friend takes a shower, then puts baby oil on a wet wash cloth. Then while still in shower wet, she wipes her whole body down. Then towels off. Clearly caution should be taken to not get oil in shower floor. I thought some of you may even use your own product this way. I use shay butter this way myself. I am fortunate, I only have very dry skin.

Relative indoor humidity is important during the heating season. Keep humidifiers clean. Moisturizing synthetic soaps and moderate water temperatures for bathing are also important. It is not necessary to bathe
every day with normal activities.
