Glad to respond. Im looking for a support group/person to help me get diabetes /heart under control. Im 74 and im not ready to have that talk with jesus yet.

Thanks, ill keep that in mind.ive been on metformin for quite some time and i read that isnt good for you to be on it so long

Is Metformin bad for you.
I started out with 1000 Mg 2 times a day.
Then dropped offf to 500Mg 2 times a day.
Now the Dr put me on 500 Mg slow release
2 time a day.
Sense he change me To this I have to make sure I eat something first .
Some times eating first do not work.
I can not complain my A1C has been normal .
When I first found out I was diabetic I was at 600 with my A1C.

Archer, I would strongly suggest that you do the best you can to follow the Doc's orders if it will keep you on oral medication only. I started out that way, but lost part of my pancreas due to a tumor and that is where insulin is manufactured. I am now on insulin and it is much more difficult than simply taking a pill a couple of times each day. I would love to be back at that point. I doubt, based on all of my research over the years that there is a 100% safe medication, but it will keep you alive a lot longer than you would live with a blood sygar of 600.

@gman007 I appreciate the very balanced approach you are taking to meds and your diabetic health. You have provided some "food for thought"!

I know I have been in insulin.

Hi @maurtura,
I noticed that you've been supporting others and getting support in the Diabetes group, but that you also asked about heart issues. Did you know that we have a Heart Health group here on Connect: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/heart-blood-vessel-conditions/

I encourage you to check out all the discussions there, but direct you specifically to this one where you'll connect with others who have a pacemaker:
- Pacemaker recipients. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/pacemaker-recipients/

Thanks, i looked at discussions and you people are way over my head and using terms i cant even pronounce. Is there a site i can just ask questions and get answers i can understand?

@maurtura Thanks for letting us know that you are having problems with our posts. Please let us know what terms you are referring to - I'm sure that we can explain it better if that is needed:) Teresa
