Any recommendations for longterm motel stay for BMT?

Posted by hoser @hoser, Jan 4 3:57pm

My sister will be having a bone marrow transplant - don't know dates as of yet but am having a hard time finding motels with shuttle to mayo for daily testing. Are there any reasonably priced ones for 3-4 months???? Please help, thanks for your time. Kathy

Hi Kathy, Which Mayo Campus will your sister be having her transplant? Rochester, Phoenix or Jacksonville?

Hi Kathy, it’s ok! We’ve got your back! I’m going to give you a few links to discussions started other members who also required long term stays in Rochester. The links are below:

Like your mom, I also had AML, requiring a bone marrow transplant at Mayo Rochester over 5 years ago. I’m here to walk both of you through this, as well as a growing posse of fellow members who have also had transplants. We’re all here to offer support for your mom’s 2nd chance at life!

We know how daunting this all seems when you look at the big picture. Just the logistics of getting all the ducks in a row feel mind boggling. But it all seems to work out and the BMT teams at Mayo are amazing. So your mom will be in excellent hands.

You’re going to have a ton of other questions so I’m going to suggest a few other discussions that will give you some reading material to get you started.

~My bone marrow transplant story, will you share yours: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/my-bone-marrow-transplant-bmt-story-will-you-share-yours/

And this discussion started by @mary612 when her husband was about to enter his transplant journey earlier in 2024. Her husband was in a clinic in Chicago. But many of the experiences are similar.

That’s enough for right now. Please get back to me with any questions or concerns! What is the target date for your mom’s transplant? Does she have a donor on board?

We stayed in a furnished apartment. They do have free shuttle service limited hours. We had to bring or buy kitchen stuff bedding etc but it was worth it. Super kind management maintenance team. Beau Hebert 507-322-1100 TheParkRochester.com

We are currently using serenity house network. They are great for all of our needs. It is cheaper than a hotel and have more of your basic needs covered.

Hi @josephdunn2. The Serenity house network is a wonderful resource patients needing longterm housing in Rochester. Thank you for sharing your experience!
It’s never easy having to relocate for a few weeks or months while undergoing treatment so it can be very helpful to others to get recommendations.

If you don’t mind sharing a little more, are you or a loved one undergoing a bone marrow transplant at Mayo-Rochester?
