How can I help a wound heal with little scarring?
Hi, i’m 21 years old, and recently i was involved in a traffic accident, leaving me with a 2-3 cm wide and quite deep wound just above my eyebrow. I’ve asked every doctor i visited about the procedures i should follow during the healing process but none of their answers have been satisfying. My wound has no stitches but i’m seeking sincere advice on creams or supplements i should apply during the healing process and afterward. Scars make me very self conscious and my access to medical support is limited. Are there others here facing a similar issue? The serious question is what types of creams and supplements are essential for the wound while it’s healing. I’m looking forward to your answers.

I had MOHS surgery on my right cheek. My dermatologist recommended Mepitac tape. It made a scar the size of a dime almost disappear. It actually would have, if I had used sunscreen appropriately. I wore it at night only. It caused a Tinny taste in my mouth, so I only wore it at night only. The Tinny taste is nasty. Maybe ask your dermatologist for a sample. I am currently treating a scar on my leg by massaging Vaseline into it and using pressure therapy. Oh….If you go out in sun, put SUNSCREEN on your scar. Otherwise the scar will turn white and be more visible.
@queenie2030 I too have had MOHS. Just two up by my hairline, and I'm about to have one done that's actually on my upper forehead/scalp. They say "superior forehead" or something like that. I say "scalp" because it is all the way up in my actual hair! In any case mine was the same. Only Vaseline. I have an excellent surgeon. So far so good. For some reason my body didn't totally absorb the stitches on this last one so the scar is still a bit darkish pink. It's only been a couple of months or so though. I'm no longer putting the Vaseline on there because enough time has passed, but I'm fighting the urge to use use something else for scars. Really dreading the one coming up. I go on the 16th.
Get some cicalfate cream made by Alsatian. Ulta had it. It is what plastic surgeons and dermatologists use for healing skin.

1 ReactionI have used Biocorneum Scar Cream, which is available on Amazon. My small mohs scar is no longer visible, but how much that was due to its small size or the Biocorneum, I do not know.

1 ReactionThe Alastin products are very expensive. If you afford them, try them out. I had a small benign growth removed by Dermatologist at the side of my nose near the bridge. He recommended Vasoline too which I used. Then a month later I found this OTC product made by Quantum Health with the fancy name of Scar Reducer. Sells for about $12 in health food store. But it has an active ingredient which petroleum jelly does not. It’s 1% allantoin. Other ingredients are olive oil, beeswax, Vitamins A, D & E, aloe, etc.
I started using that and found it helpful. I wonder if I had started with that instead of the Vasoline, if the scarring would have been reduced. Good luck to you.
There is another product called Prosil that has a SPF in it and is often recommended by plastic surgeons. But I would confirm with your doctor what they think is the best option for you.
