Has anyone had experience with the Alinker walking bike?

Posted by gravity3 @gravity3, Dec 28, 2024

I need some help with leg strengthening in general and pre tkr if it comes to that. This is pricey but it may be worth it in the long run. Does anyone have experience with the Alinker walking bike?

Hi @gravity3, The Alinker walking bike definitely looks amazing for us older folks that have trouble walking. Thanks for putting it on my radar and wish list. For others who haven't seen it, here's a video:

Thanks John. I loved her story. I noticed that they have a rent to own program, a used Alinker as they are available as well as a crowdfunding option.

That does look like a great new option for those who cannot walk very far. I also noticed there are a number of the Alinkers available on eBay.

Thanks for the info on eBay

I've not used one myself but have seen a few of them around The Netherlands over the past 10 or so years. They don't seem very popular but I think for a very narrow group of people they work well. There are also two wheeled balance bikes for adults that I think have been around for decades. One problem with balance bikes is foot/ankle pain. I've no idea if that would be a problem with the Alinker or not.

Most older people in NL and other nearby countries ride regular bikes (Dutch though, not what Americans consider regular), or step-thru or trikes. And if necessary carry a walking stick or crutch.

Welcome @altmed, Thanks for sharing the 2 links. I especially appreciate the thorough review of the Alinker. I'm 81 and my walking is limited to short distances due to lower back issues. I try to keep my leg strength up by riding a Teeter FreeStep cross trainer daily but I know that walking more is key to maintaining my health so alternatives are always on my radar.

I've purchased and use a recumbent tricycle. But I see other alternatives including the low step-thru bike. I wish I had known of their existence a few years ago when it became impossible for me to step through a regular bike.
Wonderful posts. Thanks.

A friend of mine who is 83 recommends the walkers that fit under your feet as you sit. It has really improved her blood flow and overall health. I'm going to buy one.
