Unable to acquire muscle after COVID+19
Two years after COVID rhabdomyolysis I am still unable to acquire any large degree of muscle mass. At 62 years old I went from 238 to 208 after a 5 day stay. I am now 219 lb but my pulling muscle groups burn with in 6-8 reps even with light weights. (Hamstrings/biceps/leg extensions) It is very frustrating because both my jobs require strength and endurance. And I will not except a remote control and a beer. I will try raising my test level and reduce my estrogen in hopes that it works.

Amazing and very helpful . It takes a deeper dive into the core of many COVID related issues.
I've had every shot. I never lost any muscle until I got COVID. I was infected before I went for the 4th shot and came down with Covid days later. Since then muscle mass has been more difficult to maintain but I am 78 which is an age one might expect to lose a small amount of mass. It's long covid so I fight my desire to sit and rest daily.
I too have long COVID for the past 3 years since my last infection. I lost 60lbs in 10 days. Lost all muscle mass and still can't build any.
It affected my pancreas, GI tract ( mostly my esophagus. Was told I had Achalasia, went to Mayo and my diagnosis was inconclusive.
My cognitive function has declined significantly B12 deficiency even taking injections daily, B3 Niacin undetected, my TPO is now up to 52 with normal tsh levels.
Pancreatic insufficiency where I go 10-12 a day.
Has anyone had a stool study done to check for COVID or a spinal tap to test?
I'm at my lowest point since I literally can't do my daily things I've always enjoyed.
I have 14 grandkids that I love doing things with but I physically can't.
Thanks for listening to my pity party, lol
As much as we all feel it is, it’s no pity party. It’s feelings that nobody else could even relate to. I was told everybody hurts and me trying to explain it’s a totally different pain. People just think I’m crazy. You’re right it takes your life away you can’t do all the things that you want instead. Just like being a multitasker I can’t even complete one task over a week time. I can’t even stay focused on it. I was sent a at home test to check my colon I don’t know if my doctor sent it because of of dealing with the long Covid or just a simple check. With things that have happened in my life and the bills piling up I couldn’t keep going to get constant test so I’ve been suffering when I’ve been to another state just where nobody knows me to judge me. I’m going today for my first appointment to start seeing a new doctors. I hope and pray somebody can bring my life back by their knowledge or studies. Good luck with any kind of recovery.
I have been taking HMB (Now Sports 500mg HMB Sports Recovery) since post Covid to help my muscles recover and I can tell an improvement. I am going on 80, have a 1/2 acre yard and do a lot of projects. Here is a reference. It is supposed to help older people with muscle improvement even without exercise.
"HMB is a substance your body produces naturally when it breaks down the amino acid leucine. It may offer benefits as a supplement, possibly helping reduce muscle loss or increasing muscle growth for some.
Studies link taking HMB supplements to certain benefits, such as:
increased muscle growth in untrained and older adults
reduced muscle breakdown
increased exercise performance"
