Vertigo driving me nuts: worse after eating

Posted by da69 @da69, Jan 3, 2023

Have had Vertigo for a month non stop.
Trip to ER 2 weeks ago vomitting and fell down my steps at home.
Diagnosed with positional Vertigo and put on anti dizzy med and nausea med which only help to keep me from the vomitting thresh hold.
I start Physical therapy today where they say they will put the crystals in my inner ear back where they belong.
One thing i have noticed is my vertigo gets worse as the day goes on.
Is this common?
Also does this physical therapy really help?
I am skeptical that it will work.
Anybody else have prolonged never ending Vertigo and did physical therapy really help.
I cant handle much more of this feeling dizzy and off balance.
Thank you

Since its been a long time since you first posted I sure hope you have found relief but in the chance you haven't, and for anyone with similar symptoms I thought I'd add what has helped me. I first found this information in 2002 when I first got my vertigo from an amusement park ride. I was over 50 years when I went on it and that might have been why it caused so much havoc in my life. I can't find that web site anymore but it said to not eat a whole bunch of things that other sites recommend. So no, not for me, I will never eat those things that made it worse. I avoid MSG, wheat, vinegar, garlic and all the citrus fruits and berries. There's a few veggies too but I can't remember for sure now. I don't like many anyway so I didn't have to try to remember the vegetables. Also, or about a year, I couldn't have soda pop, dairy (eggs were encouraged) like milk, yogurt, ice cream, soy and tomatoes. I don't drink alcohol and don't smoke but those are supposed to be avoided too. I slowly added dairy, and the others with no problem. Now (or I should say until two days ago when I got my vertigo back - I think because of stress/emotional stuff going on ) I can eat those things in moderation. Only those things in the last sentence, I still do not eat the wheat and all in that sentence. For now I am going back to the most restrictive diet because of the first full blown flair up in about 22 years. I had vertigo so bad back then that my daughter had to lead me to the bathroom because the room was spinning so bad I couldn't see my way there. I was nibbling on soda crackers, toast, and canned chicken soup which made it so much worse that I felt that horrible falling/flying feeling almost constantly. Sleep was difficult and I would wake up with that feeling several times a night and grab at my bed to try to feel grounded. Then my husband found the website that said not to eat all those things I was eating and it also talked about the maneuver to get the ear crystals back into place. I went to a specialist and he taught me how to do it and although I felt better after the first one I needed to do it at home a few times. Combining that with taking some vitamin and mineral supplements as well as having ginger and peppermint handy and as long as I don't get overwhelmed like I did on Christmas day I am doing much much better and have not had any major set back other than this one.
