Oh my goodness. What a beautiful inspirational story for ME to read at this time. You are my new guide and angel for the rest of my life. I’m 80. Since February that number has nearly been the devastation of me!
Through this group I am learning to change my ATTITUDE!
My husband died 2 years ago. After 54 years of marriage! Which started my negative attitude. I Felt my death come forward immediately, and
seemed like no purpose at all in my life!
I have as of today quite an improvement in my life and attitude. I’m so excited to get started with the rest of my life now❤️
I know I will lapse sometimes but I hope I’ll be able to pick myself up again each time that I lapse.
It’s going to take lots of discipline and hard work for me. But I pray that each and every day… ME
and my ever present ANGELS will strive to be a healthy, positive, loving and whole person again.
Grateful for this site always❤️

Being positive and grateful is the key that and moving your body and getting outside I hope you find peace. Meditation is my crutch.

Yes, being grateful every day is important. Staying as busy as you possibly can is great. Join clubs, exercise groups and walking as much as possible. Library books are a great escape too. I would be lost without my iPad for emails, texts, jigsaw puzzles, games, etc.

-Zero clearance shower, that is, one you can step into, not into a bathtub/shower.
-Arrange for a cleaning service if you feel you do not have the strength/ability to keep things as clean as you want them. And do this before it gets out of hand!
-Make sure you have adequate lighting for all tasks, so you are not straining, or being unsafe in doing tasks.
-Make friends in your neighborhood/community. Isolation is a very real thing, and keeping in communication with others is important for mental wellbeing.
-Try simplifying your life. What you do for entertainment, how you spend your money, how much you want to do. It's okay to not go 100 miles per hour all the time!

I especially agree with your recommendation to make friends in your neighborhood. I now know about a dozen folks who live within one or two blocks of us - and they are delightful people! I put on a New Years Day Brunch last year and will be doing another this upcoming January - It's a great way to build community!

@laurenbutterfly Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Having a get-together like you mentioned is an awesome way to have different people meet up and have a social connection. I'll bet you will be having gatherings during the year, also! Finding that others have shared interests, and being able to put names to faces, helps that isolation factor. Good for you!

Any tips on how you thought of doing this, and any obstacles you encountered while planning your brunch?

The idea of New Year brunch is wonderful idea, never thought of it. I was going to try a pre-xmas open house to have few neighbors over, but everyone is so busy. In summer neighbors talk to each other if outside, but come winter we all hibernate. I like to cook and host, so would be great idea.

Thanks for suggestion.
