Anyone tried shock wave therapy for peripheral neuropathy nerve pain?
I’ve had peripheral neuropathy since 2020 after having a Covid vaccine. My pain worsens from supper time on. At bedtime, it is excruciating. I’ve tried all of the creams, even prescription creams. I’ve been on Gabapentin and Lyrica, with no change in my pain, so I am weaning off of these meds. I’ve heard horror stories about the med and withdrawal symptoms.
Has anyone here tired sh I wave therapy? My medical professional suggested it? Any advice? Thank you very much.

Sorry. I should have said shock wave therapy.
I haven't tried it but I only numbness and tingling with no real pain for symptoms of neuropathy. There are a few members who have posted about shock wave therapy for neuropathy. Here's a link to the comments if you want to read them - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/comments/?search=shock%20wave%20therapy%20+neuropathy.
There's also a 2022 study on it's use that might be helpful.

Hi, I did shockwave and it helped heal my Peroneal tendonitis. Don’t know about the neuropathy. Not covered by Medicare/UHC. Wish these therapies that work, that have been used in Europe for over 20 years, were covered by insurance. I spent over $1000 in the course of once a week for two months.
This is what I found: "Shockwave therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), is a non-invasive treatment that can be used to help alleviate pain associated with neuropathy by delivering high-energy acoustic waves to the affected nerve tissue, potentially improving blood flow, promoting tissue repair, and reducing inflammation, thereby offering pain relief for conditions like diabetic neuropathy."
I am going to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted. My trial went well and convinced me to do the surgery. I don't think you have much to lose with trying shock wave therapy. Let us know. I understand your pain, others might not. We will do anything to get better. Good luck.
Thank you all for your kind replies. I have my first “consult” on January 7, 2025, so will let you know what the RMT says. I am so hopeful. This pain is unbearable. Again, thank you to all.
What kind of a doctor do you see for the shockwave therapy? It’s something that I would like to try. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. I have not tried this yet. Would you do it again?
It was $200 a session and I did 5 sessions, not covered by Medicare. If it would help the leg pain from my stenosis, I would totally do it again. I went to a woman recommended by my sports medicine doc. There were others in my area but the doc said that this was the best place, and I guess best price
I haven’t been yet. Another person recommended this person. My understanding is that it is a registered massage therapist. I will let you know once I have my fist consult on January 7, 2025.
Hi @carolynmcn ,
