Hi, I lost my sense of taste for some foods, and found I don't like certain breads. I have to cut the crust off if I want a sandwich. Even if I have a burger, I can only eat half of it if I eat the bun with it. I stay away from eating bread most of the time. I ate soft/Pureed foods and used SILK unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk with flavored protein powder for my Protein Shakes. I would put a small container of flavored High Protein Yogurt with it. FAIRLIFE milk is high in Protein also. Otherwise I would drink the ready made kind. My favorite is Premiere Protein with 30g Protein, any flavor. Try to stay away from eating to much sugar. It causes Dumping Syndrome. Make sure to take ALL YOUR VITAMINS as recommended. I've been reading that losing smell and taste goes with age. I am 60. I also read that the lack of Vitamin D and E can affect both, and Vitamin B12 maybe Zinc can too. I read that sniffing peanut butter, peppermint, and other strong scents may restore your sense of smell. It would be a good idea to discuss it with your doctor's. I have gotten some of my taste for foods back, but I also don't like certain foods either. Good luck!!

I had never heard of odd smell associated with bariatric surgery, but after a few searches found out smell and bad breath can be associated with GI issues. When food is digested, bacteria in the stomach breaks it down, In some situations, if lining of pouch is irritated by food, the bacteria can release foul-smelling gases.
I have problems with bacteria overgrowth, but that was years after surgery and my symptoms were excessive burping.
At 8 weeks, your still on limited diet so could look at food eating your eating.
Can you identify if worse after eating certain food. You have already eliminated lacteous containing food. Make sure drinking enough water.
Did it start right away after surgery, or when you started to introduce more food into your diet? Do you have any other symptoms like burping or heartburn?
You may want to talked to your care team about? They may have suggestions or determine if need to be check for GI issues.
