Skin maintenance while aging
Hello everyone. I am 46. I think I am already menopausal, and I noticed since the middle of this year, I have been darkening. I have lost my skin complexion and my skin especially facial skin has become dull. What can I do to restore? I have always been light skinned but one can't say that of me anymore.
Also, the hot flushes are quite an embarrassment in public. Please what can I do to curb it.

I might get a complete physical exam, including labs for vitamin levels. And, check with a dermatologist. I had dark skin appear on my stomach and arms last year. My dermatologist couldn’t decide what it was, but I was convinced it was hormonal and related to decline in estrogen. I’ve read about it.
There are some threads on this site about menopause and HRT. I would explore that for sure, if I were your age. I would do this regardless of skin situation. Many women feel they weren’t provided adequate information about menopause over the years. Information is invaluable.
I use Cerve skin care products by my dermatologist’s recommendation and they are awesome.
Please post what you find out. My dark areas have mostly faded.
in reply to @veeveen23 I understand, and I have been using some honey cream I found on Amazon. It is made with honey from New Zealand, and it is called "first honey": Skin Therapy Cream. Made with manuka honey, which has healing properties. Also, with my primary immune deficiency, I heard a dermatologist (from the NIH) speak at a conference in June in Chicago, who said that swimming in a pool once a week was great for one's skin. I have rather dry skin because of my disease, and so far this cream I bought is the best, along with a small amount of hyaluronic acid, also recommended at the conference, You only need to use a small amount. Don't let the scent of the honey cream throw you off, it is because of the type of honey used...many people complained, but because of the type of honey that is used in the product it does not smell like "real honey." I studied ag in college and I know my "bees," so to speak. Manuka honey and propolis honey have healing properties and I take a teaspoon each evening to give my immune system a boost, another topic at the conference, all from the NIH, which I think is credible. Good luck. Oh, a nice lightening cream for under you eyes might also help. Often if you go to ULTA, they will give you a free sample. The one I use is made by AFA, targeted treatment for eye brightening. There are so many expensive products out that promise "beautiful youthful skin in 30 days: but don't believe in all of it.....I have a friend who is a project manager for Loreal, and they have some great products that have been tested by the Environmental Working Group and certified as "safe." Good luck
you can find loreal on Amazon at a great price, and you can return it if you don't like it...in fact, I ordered some special eye drops, which they said could not be returned, but since I was allergic , they let me keep it and refunded my money ASAP.
Thank you, Celia!
I appreciate, Frances.
You're welcome. I have a lot of good info because I am an info junkie....it is because I was a litigation insurance adjuster for 40 years and had to investigate all kinds of facts and stuff like that. I take notes every time I read an interesting article. For example, I read an article (maybe I already shared this) that talked about the benefits of using an olive oil based bar soap for skin and hair, so I bought some. I can say with certainty that not only is my hair and skin softer, but my hair is growing like weeds, another benefit of the soap. Amazon, 3 bars for 6 bucks.
Which brand of olive oil bar soap did you buy? Thanks.
I started swimming once a week 3 years ago. Then my skin started to break out with weird white dots all over my body. Extra chlorine and the high PH number in pool water stripped the oil from my skin, making it more vulnerable. I saw at least 8 doctors. First it was diagnosed as Tinea Veriscolor. Then biopsy showed they were VERRUCA VULGARIS (common wart). But none of the treatments really worked. Finally I found a Yale graduate female doctor who said it is due to aging and biopsy for these skin issues is not accurate. She asked me to buy this from Amazon: AmLactin Daily Vitamin C Lotion - 7.9 oz Body Lotion with 7% Lactic Acid - Skin-Brightening Exfoliator and Moisturizer for Dry Skin. It has worked wonders so far. All my white bumps are largely gone. My skin is soft and glowy.
I also found Neem soap helpful. I bought them online too. As we age, we need to use skin products all over our body 1-2 times a day to keep our skin moist.
Sorry for the late response. The soap is called Kiss My Face, 80 percent olive oil, palm oil free, fragrance free, sea salt and made in Greece and cruelty free. I have it on a subscription from Amazon, have given a couple of bars away and so far those that have used it are very happy. Maybe you could find the same or similar product at the store if you did not want to purchase three bars. Kiss My Face is a very good brand and you can check Amazon for the reviews. Good luck, I do not think you will be disappointed.
Thank you all. I have dry skin am 64 live in NM. Time for me to purchase something like this even if it costs more.
