GLP-1 Drugs Causing Arrythmias

I started taking semaglutide about 5 months ago. During the last 30 days on semaglutide, GLP-1, my dosage was increased. I’ve lost about 20lbs on it. I had a history of Afib and 7 years ago had a heart ablation because I didn’t want to be on blood thinners and heart rate meds for the rest of my life. I’ve had no reoccurrence of Afib for 7 years. All of a sudden last month I went into persistent Afib. I went to urgent care and have spoken to a few doctors and no one seems to know anything about a relationship between GLP-1 and Afib. Everything on the internet says GLP-1 should actually help with AFIB because of weight loss. I stopped taking Semaglutide 2 weeks ago but am still in AFIB. I will be seeing a Mayo cardiologist in a few weeks.
Anyone else have any experience with GLP-1 and AFIB

@swex I had a CABG in 2019 and went into full AFib in 2020, had an ablation done and was out of AFib for four years. Dr put me on Ozempic and 8 weeks later I went into AFIB. 2nd ablation done and I was out of AFib. Started back on Ozempic and 6 weeks later went back into full time AFib. 3rd ablation done 6 weeks ago, no AFib and no plans to ever take Ozempic again.
I go by the saying " Ablation is a process, not a procedure." AFIB is never done with you!

Regarding the GLP-1 drugs, they have been a win-win.

@swex not having AFIB problems, but my blood pressure has been running lower around 90/55.
Same. Out of nowhere when taking glp1. Nobody can tell me it’s not related.
@swex I have SVT, which also is a heart rhythm issue. I bought some GLP-1 drops and noticed that I was having more rhythm events so I stopped using it.

There is a study that shows it is helpful for many afib patients who are overweight and also lowers repeat episodes of afib for most of the 2500 people in the study. But it can do what happened to you. They need further studies. There are other types of weight loss drugs but I don’t know yet if glp1 is a single drug or a heading for different kinds of drugs. @swex This is me too although not persistent. Once i went up to 1.7 it started happening once every few weeks. My ablation was 4 years ago. My cardiologist also didn’t seem to be sure of the connection although dehydration used to be a trigger for me. I dropped back to 1mg this week but now also have to have another ablation which is gutting. There simply isn’t enough research on this to be sure.

Me almost same exact story has ablation march 28,took shot sunday nite wed fell back into afib after having negative readi as on my watch for month and a half ,now on more meds ,waiting on 2nd ablation have stopped zepbound after only 1 shot cause I read an article about afib and zepbound
