Hi, everyone. This is @mamacitalucita. I do have Fibromyalgia, diagnosed since 1990. I have had severe flares for several years in a row, now. Where I live the doctors are extremely cautious of prescribing too much or the wrong kind of medicine. Extreme, chronic pain can frequently lead to depression. Until this past year I spent most of my days hugging the sofa. My life was on hold, as I put on a mask for my family. The stress of concealing the depth of my pain took its' toll. I tried to get appropriate medication from my specialist. I honestly think he believed I was exaggerating. I went to work, took care of my family, but I was hardly living. I worked because I had no choice. After I retired, it became clear to me that my doctor was giving me the very least amount of medication he could. So I started bringing a notebook with me to my appointments. I let him know exactly what Fibromyalgia was doing to my life. The activities of daily living, the responsibilities at work, the relationships of family and friends. My pain was damaging my life. Fortunately he finally comprehended my need for a change. Lyrica changed my life. I also supplement with Magnesium and Flaxseed oil capsules. I eat a very low carb diet, with an emphasis on lots of vegetables and protein. A few nuts and seeds, some strawberries and blueberries. Lots of filtered water, prayer, and mindfulness. Eliminating negativity in my life has helped tremendously. I try to give back to others what I did not have for so many years. Peace and love. @mamacitalucita

Lyrica helped my fibro soooo much and quickly! Unfortunately, after about 2 months, it swelled my lower legs and ankles/feet to the point where that I could no longer take Lyrica. Dr changed my meds to Cymbalta. It helped but again, the same swelling came back. Not sure what to do now. Dr has referred me to pain clinic. Hoping they will help me.

Everyone is different, that's for sure. How smart you were to work with your physician to make the best choices for your body! We have some really good pain clinics around here. I have heard that they can be very beneficial in helping to regain your health. I will be hoping with you that just the right treatment plan is found for you. We are here for you. @mamacitalucita

@mamacitalucita sounds like you found peace and helping others is what's it's all about.Congrats

Yes and thank you! I'm being treated at Mayo in Phoenix. I will have my 1st consult at the pain clinic there soon. I'm hopeful they can help me.

Right now I'm not on any meds for my fibro until I have my 1st consult at the pain clinic. I'm in a lot of pain but trying to do the best I can to get around. It's hard to exercise when the temp here in AZ is 105-115°. Going to work everyday is difficult but does get me out of the house. The sleepiness nights and daytime tiredness are almost more bothersome than the pain.

Yes, @lioness, I have indeed. I am happier than I have ever been. Helping others to find hope is what it's all about. Love and light, mamacitalucita

I am so excited for you! You are in very good hands. Let us know how you are doing when you can. Peace, mamacitalucita

@mamamsitalucita. Yes Love and Light everyday

Welcome to Connect, @keb0504. Starting at a pain clinic is a great first step. We'll all be interested in hearing how it goes and what you learn at Mayo Clinic's AZ pain clinic. I'm tagging a few members who have been to the Mayo Clinic Pain Rehabilitation Center (PRC), like @kelseylmontague @canadagal @lynettegable, @medic7054, and @lauriedr. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1998. Lyrica was not covered by my insurance. About 3 months ago my new primary Dr. Recommend lyrica. I check and my insurance covers it. I also have been on cymbalta for depression and found out that it also helps with pain. Do you know the dose age for cymbalta that will help. Is more better? I have been distracted about fibromyalgia for the last 10 years do too spine surgery’s some relief. Now the body spasms are bad. After reading more about fibromyalgia I believe most my symptoms are from fibromyalgia. What is your opinion about this ?
