Curiosity Questions

As I try to learn more about how I might have developed bronchiecstasis and contracted MAC, I'm puzzled by two findings. Perhaps someone here has some input.
First, MAC is often referred to as Lindy Windermere's Syndrome because it affects a disproportionate number of older Caucasian women who might typically suppress their cough. Does anyone understand the science?
Second, MAC is picked up from dust, soil, or water. My cardiologist was surprised that I, who live in the Desert Southwest, was diagnosed with MAC. He said it more often shows up in the Northeast. Does your own experience support this?

Since we're talking about feathers and such....question about my down comforter. Never thought it a problem because I tested negatively to down feathers, and it's oh so warm in winter. I cannot be completely objective on the topic. I am allergic to dust and mites and I suppose the down comforter attracts those even with a duvet cover. Anyone else give up their down comforters and notice any difference?

Yes, about 30 years ago we had to give up our beloved down comforters - we actually found some synthetic ones that were close, but over time I felt, even with covers, they also were dust/dander repositories. We now use lightweight fleece blankets that are washed and dried every 2 weeks, topped by 100% cotton (incl batting) quilts in cold weather.

Hi friends -
I’ve seen a couple of reference to bird-related issues as possible causes of MAC. I have a pet bird. Might that be the cause of my continuing infection? Thanks for any guidance!

A pulmonologist in 2012 told me to get rid of my bird (after a nodule was discovered in my lungs) or I’d be sorry. I’ve always had birds up until 2019. When I asked other pulmonologists I couldn’t seem to get a definitive answer about birds. I was diagnosed with MAC around 2020

Sue- My first thought with reading your post about my favorite type of pillow, down feathers, and knowing all you have posted about what changes you have made due to BE/MAC etc. etc.....you..,.as well as Linda Espisito, have made a "brick house", as she calls it. I see I have a long way to go to do that. So far no allergies just our mutual BE and MAI for me.
Thankful that overall I feel well and can do my therapy with no problem.
Wishing you a memorable, happy, joyful, precious, holiday with family, friends and all those you care about and care for.
Barbara
