I talked to an allergist a few weeks ago. I told him my symptoms when I drink/eat Cows, Soy, Rice, and Almond milks … my stomach hurts and I feel sick. Even if lactaid and carrageenan free. I can drink/eat Oat mik with no problem. He said it is the protein that my body does not like. I have not cooked with any of them but Cow milk. If cooked it does not bother me. I am okay with most cheeses. I eat sharp cheddar mostly.

I think I am just weird 😁

I had the test for lactose intolerance about a month ago. They draw your blood once and then you drink a chalky gritty substance. 15 minutes later they draw your blood again and every 15 minutes until it’s been a total of five times.

After that, it’s a half hour twice for a total of seven blood draws. When I got down to the last two they had to move to my other arm.

When she first started, I laughed and told her I didn’t have the regular reaction that most people do with lactose, because I knew many people had diarrhea. I tend to bloat and mine use is the opposite issue. The last half hour made a total liar out of me. I just about couldn’t get out of the hospital bathroom for my final blood draw and for the next three hours, it was go go go go!

That’s when they called me and said I was severely lactose intolerant. Then I decided to look at my 23andme results I had somewhat ignored. I knew it said I was lactose intolerant, but what I didn’t pay attention to was that it did show. I received the Gene from each of my parents. Something you’re just a carrier and you have one Gene of something - I didn’t develop this later in life. It definitely was something I was born with.

But it IS quite possible I could have an issue with the protein in soy, too. I’m going to try out and see if it works. When we’ve been on vacations, I ask for oat milk for my coffee because they seem to have it.

Thank you for that!
