How can I help a wound heal with little scarring?

Posted by yaseminkilinc @yaseminkilinc, Dec 20, 2024

Hi, i’m 21 years old, and recently i was involved in a traffic accident, leaving me with a 2-3 cm wide and quite deep wound just above my eyebrow. I’ve asked every doctor i visited about the procedures i should follow during the healing process but none of their answers have been satisfying. My wound has no stitches but i’m seeking sincere advice on creams or supplements i should apply during the healing process and afterward. Scars make me very self conscious and my access to medical support is limited. Are there others here facing a similar issue? The serious question is what types of creams and supplements are essential for the wound while it’s healing. I’m looking forward to your answers.

@yaseminkilinc How unfortunate, when I was your age I had a couple of facial wounds and was very self conscious about them. I was lucky to have a young sympathetic dermatologist who understood.

Let me assure you, wounds look quite bad as they heal, but please avoid the urge to cover yours with cosmetics, or to try a lot of creams and lotions. Find one simple moisturizer, Vitamin E oil is a good one, and gently dab it on the scab and surrounding area once or twice a day. Avoid touching it otherwise, which is very hard to avoid.

Once the wound is healed, and the scab is completely gone, there are silicon products that can be used on the scar to improve the appearance. Silagen is one brand that is pretty expensive, but works very well. There are some others but I am not familiar with them. The trick is you must use them faithfully, day and night for 3 months or longer.

At what stage is the healing today?

I used coconut oil twice daily and rubbed it in very well. I tried scar away which was recommended by the Dr but I was allergic to o it. It may work for you. And my oil was organic.

Sorry to hear of your accident but glad you are okay.

I had surgery on my neck for my thyroid and have a 4 cm scar.
My suggestion to you is to use Aquaphor and Mederma and keep your wound from scabbing and to protect it from the sun (use sunscreen and/or wear a hat when outside) because it can darken permanently.

Good instructions to keep it moist with hypoallergenic products.
I like silicon sheets that are helpful once the scabbing and crusting stage of wound healing is complete. Use them at nighttime or all day long for weeks after they
also can help prevent darkening from sun exposure.
If a scar thickens there is the option of laser remediation done by an experienced dermatologist.

Bio oil and Mederma cream are both good products for healing scars.

You're so kind, thank youu < 3 I've been trying to take care of the wound myself, but it just won't scab over and keeps bleeding. I'm planning to see a plastic surgeon on Monday.

After several MOHS surgeries at age 78, on my face, nose, hand and leg for skin cancer I was told NOT to let the wound scan over. I kept Vaseline on them covered with bandaids until they were healed the result is very good. The last MOHS on my face was small enough they could stitch it and said put absolutely nothing on it. Best of luck in healing.
