Hesitant to start Humira

Posted by jules86 @jules86, Dec 20, 2024

I have ILD and RA. My doctor has prescribed Humira since Plaquenil did not help with the flares. Before I started taking Humira I became ill with diverticulitis and had to postpone starting. The GI infection is cleared now, however I am very concerned about other infections and getting sick. If you are taking this medication how/what do you do to prevent infections? I’m in the midst of a flare now that has been going on for a while. I really don’t want to be the person living in a bubble.

You will need to be screened for chronic viral disease
and tuberculosis before starting Humira.
Humira may benefit both of your inflammatory conditions. Untreated this could lead to fibrosis and joint degeneration. Make sure your doctors communicate and explain the risks and benefits.
I have made sure to have all my age appropriate vaccination on Humira. With your ling disease consider
an N95 mask for air travel and heavy exposure risk
situation.

I checked side effect literature and there have been reports of interstitial
lung disease in patients on adalimumab. I stand corrected. It may not be
the drug for you. Ask your doctor if he thinks that is a contraindication.
It’s a good idea to do your research.
