Has anyone experienced excessive sleepiness or lassitude or other bad side effects from 2 Metformin 500 mg per day? Or any side effects from Trulicity?

I had a hard time with Metformin at 1st. My doc then prescribed 750mg timed release and I have had no problems since. I found Metformin to be a game changer in my type 2 as I resisted medicine at 1st. But now my numbers are in the 80s and 90sand A1C low 5s. Don’t give up.

Metformin did upset my stomach for about a month or 2 when I started on it. I am now on 850 mg twice a day, and it took another month or so to get used to that also--no other side effects for me.

No matter how many times I try to restart I am faced with diarrhea, stomach upset, and difficulty sleeping seemingly because my intestinal track seems to be in digesting mode all night long. It is hard to describe. I do think I have a lot of dreams while taking it as well. I am now starting back at 500 mg every other day. Additionally, I can tell it is still in my system the next day after taking it (meaning my day off), because if feel very cold all day long. By the way, feeling cold is the way I used to feel when I was in my teens, twenties, and thirties naturally. I didn't realize that feeling had gone away in my forties until I started taking metformin and the state of living while feeling colder than everyone else in the room came back.

Yes. Every few months, especially around Dinner time I would get a
N upset, bloated stomach, can’t eat, feel full. Within an hour, I usually have explosive diarrhea which can continue over the next few hour. Sometimes longer.
I take 1000mg in AM, 500 at lunch and 500 at dinner with meals.
I usually go off for a few days to 2 weeks.

All meds have side effects. Learn what they are when they are first prescribed before you even start the med. This way you’ll be aware of what could happen before you get started. Getting this information can help you compare the risks and benefits of a medication. Also remember that not every side effect always happens to everybody. (Every possible thing that could happen should be included in the information, but that doesn’t mean that it will.)
Metformin is commonly prescribed for type 2 diabetes but has LOTS of side effects. Some people adjust to it and can tolerate it. Some people can’t. Then alternatives can be sought out. Your provider should be able to help.
Trulicity has a side effect that affects kidneys I think but I’m not sure. Again, your provider is a good judge of what could work best for you.

Metformin is nasty. Even just on a single 500 mg dose in the evening, In addition to fatigue and constant headaches, I had horrible stomach upsets all day, every day for over two months before I gave up. Metformin is often the first treatment given because it is very cheap and practitioners just prescribe it out of habit. If you are still having difficulty tolerating it, work with your medical team to find a better alternative for you.

Same here! My PCP said T2D, so once daily 500mg XL. I tried pm or am dosing for 8-10 weeks and felt like crap. Weak, fatigue, worse leg cramps, headache, general malaise. I quit. Thank goodness I was able to travel from out of state to Scottsdale Endo: I have LADA, not T2D.
