Can fibromyalgia affect your speech?
I am new to the diagnosis of fibromyalgia and have been trying to educate myself. Last week I went to the emergency room because I suddenly was lisping, had difficulty breathing, dizziness and elevated blood pressure. I have never lisped before but my mouth is not functioning as it usually has. It feels like my jaws are not aligning. I am not crazy, this really happened and is continuing. Nothing wrong dentally. But of course, the ER could not find anything wrong with me, and my primary care physician asked if I were depressed and seemed to indicate that I was malingering. So has anyone else had fibromyalgia affect their speech?

I would make an appointment with your Doctor. Something not right.
I have had FM for over 45 years it has not affected my voice.
Wish you the best. Keep a daily diary. Of things.
Personally, I would see an Infectious Disease doctor. In my 29.5 years of having Fibro I have never had this symptom.
God Bless you & praying for you.
It has affected my speech when the Fibro Fog gets real bad. Although, some of your symptoms (short of breath, raised blood pressure...) sound like an anxiety/panic attack. Maybe from being alarmed about your speech.
Dunno. Hope this helps!

It’s only affected my speech in the sense of stuttering slightly or fibro fog, concentration gone and can’t remember my words or I’ll explain things in a hard way lol but not like you
Hi I'm new also to the diagnosis and have lisp and speech problems, I think it depends on how tired I am. Ive engaged a clinical physio how has experience with Fibro and he us more helpful than my treating doctors ...Best wishes
Thank you for your response. What is a clinical Physio?
Hi - I believe they have a higher education like a masters or PHD, and stay in touch with current research to assist their clients with the latest clinical knowledge. I'm in Australia so it could just be a fancy name but mine has Masters in MSK - This focuses on musculoskeletal disorders- he provides a wholistic approach, as in he wanted to get to know me and my past, wanted my reports and blood test results etc to see the full picture before providing me with a management plan to assist me. Early days but he has been so helpful and understands Fibro
also with regards to your jaw Google TMJ you may need a mouth guard for a while.. helped me but you need to let your dentist know and go to a good one
I think you may want to consult with a Neurologist about that. It sounds different than Fibromyalgia symptoms I am familiar with.
thank you I have they all say my symptoms are stress related and send me away, im sick of being pushed aside from one to the other Bless
