Anyone use a 3-day Prozac bridge to taper off venlafaxine (Effexor)?

I started 10 mg of Prozac several months ago at the same time I started weaning from Effexor. I’m on 40 mg of Pro now and it has taken me almost 6 months to get down to 37.5 mg of Eff. Been on this level for 1 month and having anxiety and trembling and fatigue . Not lowering it until I feel I’m ready. And it will be compounded so I can go real slow.

Thanks for the reply. I have been cold turkey 300 ml venlafaxin now for 5 days, did the prozac bridge and started lexipro yesterday. To say i felt like dying the last 5 days is an understatement. The withdrawals have been the worst thing i have ever went through. I dont recommend any doctor suggesting this to any patient no matter what they read. Its cruel and downright evil.

Please read other posts on this site concerning venlafaxine/Effexor. One cannot quit this drug cold turkey and expect it to go well. See Mark Horowitz and David Taylor: The Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines, published this year.

I trusted my doctor thinking that he knows what hes doing but in this case i cant think thats the case. If i stop all this and just take my venlafaxin again will this all go away?

It will stop in a few days if you re-start the Effexor. My psychiatrist no longer prescribes Effexor or Paxil due to the excruciating and long discontinuation of these drugs.

Returning to venlafaxine will make the withdrawal symptoms go away--at least, it did in my case after trying to quit the drug twice. If you do return to venlafaxine, you might be lucky enough to be able to return to a reduced dose, from which it will be easier to withdraw when you are ready to try again. Best wishes to you. Im on day 8 and still not the best but dont want to bail and go back on effexor when i have suffered this much, im taking it minute by minute
