Moon Face: What can I do about a puffy face?

Posted by nothatkaren @nothatkaren, Dec 17 10:13pm

I was diagnosed with PMR a little over a month ago. Started on 65mg of prednisone, now down to 35. I hardly recognize myself. My face is so puffy that my best friend did a double take today and barely recognized me. I am terribly self conscious about it, and have been avoiding going out in public whenever possible. That said, I can't hide away for an undetermined period of time due to the nature of my work. Any suggestions?

It is also important to reduce food intake as we are are not able to exercise as much as usual. I am not a believer in the low/zero carb diet in that respect. Much better to just reduce what you already eat by a small percentage. Carbs are needed for brain function, something many don't realise, hence the brain fog often reported. These are only my personal research assumptions.

I agree with this too ... drastic dietary responses to our condition causes stress. We all seem to agree that stress isn't good for PMR/GCA.

A "balanced diet" is something to strive for. It is very easy to overreact to changes in our health status by taking more prednisone and other drastic things which aren't always good either. Stability and maintaining homeostasis are important concepts too.

Hi @nothatkaren, my face is swollen. I'm down to 7.5 mg prednisone from 40 mg for GCA. Sometimes it feels like my skin is going to burst. I have a face mask that freezes, and I use it for relief from that going to burst feeling. My cheeks are also unusually red. The ice mask doesn't bring the swelling down, but it feels good.
I'm going to check out Danieele Collins yoga. Thank you @cavalryman!

I suggest trying a Jade face roller. They are very inexpensive from Amazon. I use mine a few times a week and have noticed that it helps to make my face look a little less puffy the next day. Hope it helps you. Blessings! ❤️
