Incredible medicine for aging well: Walking!
I want to share something that I have practiced almost daily for many years and the difference it has made is astounding. It's simply walking for 1 hour a day! It is truly an incredible medicine. The benefits: for me have been
1. Relaxation
2. Better, deep sleep
3. Breaks up the day
4. Turns negative thoughts to positive
5. Balances appetite - I eat well, not to excess (like on days I don't walk) and gravitate to healthier foods for some reason
6. Perfect vitals like blood pressure. No health issues
7. Great muscle tome all over
8. Much more stamina
9. Look far younger than my age
10. Get fresh air
11. Sense of adventure
12. With the right shoes each foot strike feels wonderful
13. Just plain fun!
14. Potential to meet new people with the same mindset, if that's your thing]
15. Normal BMI (body mass index). Mine is about 21
16. No cost to get started but I recommend good walking shoes when you finally "get it". Good shoes add a whole other dimension
17. Many internal benefits that you are totally unaware of, such increased blood volume, more efficient oxygen transport, more pliable blood vessels. Keeps you healthy!
So there you are. I hope this encourages someone to at least try it out. Then when you get "into it" you can search for good walking shoes. Excellent ones can be found online for anywhere from $50 to $150. Stick with the major brands and only buy shoes made for walking. I will recommend the Brooks Omni Walker, as a start. Also excellent, the famous Brooks Addiction Walker. They got that name right!

Yes, dogs and cats are the most common cause of falls in the US I think I saw it was like 80% of all falls. I had a neighbors dog jump on me without warning, it knocked me over and I fell directly on my hip on pavement! I survived that fall, I think, with just a bruise. I know someone, someone with osteoporosis, who came outside and their neighbors huge dog (like the 3-4 ft. kind) all of a sudden jumped up to "give then a hug". The person fell back against a wall thankfully. That was scary.
How in the world can people own dogs and not have them trained? In Europe dogs get trained by the entire society starting very young. The method is to bring them out into all situations and no one comes up to the dog to pet it. That's totally different than in America! That early attention and petting causes bad dog behavior. I think I read it causes a type of neuroses in digs.
And I will caution everyone (from personal experience) to wear proper walking or workout shoes in the house when you exercise there. Slippers on hardwood floors or tile can be as bad as slipping on the ice. And exercising barefoot (other than yoga) is an invitation to sore feet, an aching back or shin splints. Also remove obstacles or you may have bruised knees, and any loose rugs that can slide.
Over time, I have managed to do every one of these dumb things in my own home - I'm a slow learner I guess.🤷♀️

I live in a small place as well. I've found that the yes2next website has walking videos that don't require a lot of space. Take a look at it, you might find something that you can do.

I am an 86 year snow bird and walk five days a week have been doing this for three years now started soon as my last chemo treatment for lymphoma b and four surgeries for melanoma what a difference it has made mentally and physically latest pet scan very positive
Only do 40 to 45 minutes but able to do projects now replaced bathroom vanity shower and toilet last winter and starting second bath this year
So guys get walking and stop complaining

Dancing is a form of walking that can be more enjoyable than just walking straight.
