Can fibromyalgia affect your speech?

Posted by robindancer5678 @robindancer5678, 1 day ago

I am new to the diagnosis of fibromyalgia and have been trying to educate myself. Last week I went to the emergency room because I suddenly was lisping, had difficulty breathing, dizziness and elevated blood pressure. I have never lisped before but my mouth is not functioning as it usually has. It feels like my jaws are not aligning. I am not crazy, this really happened and is continuing. Nothing wrong dentally. But of course, the ER could not find anything wrong with me, and my primary care physician asked if I were depressed and seemed to indicate that I was malingering. So has anyone else had fibromyalgia affect their speech?

I would make an appointment with your Doctor. Something not right.
I have had FM for over 45 years it has not affected my voice.
Wish you the best. Keep a daily diary. Of things.

Personally, I would see an Infectious Disease doctor. In my 29.5 years of having Fibro I have never had this symptom.

God Bless you & praying for you.

It has affected my speech when the Fibro Fog gets real bad. Although, some of your symptoms (short of breath, raised blood pressure...) sound like an anxiety/panic attack. Maybe from being alarmed about your speech.

Dunno. Hope this helps!
