Anyone Overcome ED After Losing Half of the Nerves?

Posted by survivor5280 @survivor5280, 4 days ago

That's my news today after my pre-op MRI, I'm losing half my nerves. The doctor says it's possible to overcome ED but I feel as though I've already lost half the battle.

I'm utterly devastated.

There are multiple options. You can get a penis pump, a penile implant, shots which give you an erection Bimix or Trimix or others. Some people also find Cialis or Viagra work, you could try this first.

EV doesn’t always come back right away but with one side of nerves you could get it back, after a while. And you can use any of the other options while you’re waiting

Half the nerves, but all of the cancer. Hopefully.
One step at a time. Surgery, then possible incontinence, then erectile function.
Don't worry about too far ahead.

I have recovered quit good after surgery and other half of nerves removed. It took about one year to recover. Erection is about 80-90%. But now im ADT and did radiaton 33x. Now my erec (and libido) is totaly lost again. Have to wait, will it come back after ADT is finished (2months left).

@restlessandwild are you saying that you lost all of your nerve bundles and are able to get to 80-90%?!?! I thought that was impossible. Or are you saying you were initially spared and later lost half?

Not all, I think left side nervers were removed and other side not. So 50% saved. And someone said, that nervers might able to recover? Are they?

That makes sense, I'm the opposite, the left will stay (except for the 1-2mm margin they take automatically) and the right will be taken.

Thank you, you have given me a little bit more comfort and today I'll take every little bit I can have.

My June 2024 surgery was completely non-nerve sparing due to the localized cancer spread. I have no hope of a natural erection. I tried pills but absolutely no response. The pump helps some, with lots of effort, but the best I could do would make intercourse unlikely. I think Trimix shots could work, but without a condom, the urine leakage would be problematic, making sexual activity less than "romantic." Interestingly, I can have an orgasam, but it is not the same as before and only minimally satisfying. Since my cancer has already reoccurred, the radiation and ADT are only going to make things worse, even taking my libido away. I have just accepted that an enjoyable sex life is in my past, and that does sadden me. I would emphasize that if you have a spouse, their capabilities and desires have not changed. My wife says she doesn't care about my impotence, as long as I'm alive. I work hard to focus on her needs and desires, and not mine. I may find little ability or desire, but I can still satisfy her be other means.

I had surgery in January 2022. My surgery was non-nerve sparing on one side due to the localized cancer spread. I have about zero interest in sex and no erectile signs.
On a brighter note— my cancer hasn’t metastasized and I’m continent.

I was told the same pre-op. Post-op, the surgeon said he saved both sides. My PSAs have all been "undetectable" in the 19 months since, and erectile function had returned to pre-op baseline. Point is, best to worry about the things we can control. At this point, learning about penile rehabilitation and preparing a plan for that post-op will prepare you for "whatever-is", rather than worrying about "what-ifs". Good luck to you and good skill to your surgeon.

My heart agrees wholehearted with that statement. My brain, on the other hand, begs to differ.
