6 months of unexplained twitches throughout body, high WBC
Hi all,
Am a 37 yo female healthy and work in healthcare.
6 months ago I woke up to heart palpitations. After a week of this, and then feeling “off” during one day, decided to go to urgent care. My ekg was way off and they sent me to ER. Initially they found nothing expect abnormal ekg, then I came back 4 hours later with worsening palpitations and my potassium was way low.
Cardiologist tests all normal.
After all this scare I stated having body twitches, initially with palpitations was like whole body was twitching, then turned to just little here and there but has been every day since then. At night one arm or both will go to sleep. Palpitations have resolved but these symptoms remain. Has kept me from sleeping well. Symptoms get worse around my period.
MRI today came back with normal results. Neurologist expected it would, but glad to have confirmation.
From the initial er visit my WBC was elevated around 12. And has hovered around there at each check up since. My pcp now suggesting hematology referral. Have been losing some more hair than normal past month or so too. But no pain and energy is generally ok.
Sound familiar to anyone.
Been so many guesses, post-Covid? Unknown cancer? Auto-immune? Allergy? Etc etc.
Working in healthcare sometimes has its disadvantages because you imagine yourself in every scenario you have seen. But my health anxiety is getting better with mindfulness.
Thanks

Been having more twitches past couple weeks after they had been better. Still pretty random all over. Anxiety has been high thinking the worst, which doesn’t help sleep or twitching. Tongue swelling and weird symptoms of mouth with tingling lips continues. Have some follow ups coming up. Just feeling all the stress of trying to not look things up and worry but also wanting to look things up to rule out the worry. Tough cycle.
Did go for a run for first time in 8 months yesterday and that was a big win.

1 ReactionHello, Dystonia is such a complex and confusing disease. I have experienced some of the things you have. I started having tremors this year (dystonia 11-12 years), After a severe asthma attack I had a “Dystonia storm” and my giant cell arteritis flared, since then my tremors were not stoping and making life difficult. We went to a specialist who put me on Carbidopa-levadopa, Botox in neck, arms and leg. The carbidopa-levadopa seems to have lessened the tremors quite a bit, maybe you can ask your health care provider if it could help you. I also have one arm and hand that have pins and needles especially at night. You are not alone, this is a real neurological disease not simply anxiety or as one Dr Told me many years ago it was psychogenic! Now they have so much more information.I was also told it is somewhat common in people with autoimmune diseases. I don’t know if have offered any help but please know you are not alone and there is no one cure but we keep pressing forward and hopping, we are all in this together. Blessings
@dwpucci56, welcome. Have you been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease?
Good morning Colleen, I was tested for Parkinson’s but it was negative. For me, the medication that helps Parkinson’s;( Carbidopa-levadopa ) has helped my tremors when nothing else did. If there is anything I can do or share that can be of any help or just someone to talk with who understands, please let me know, we are all in this together. Love and Blessings
