Has anyone experienced red rash on face after starting Evenity?

Posted by lab54 @lab54, Aug 19, 2023

I just started Evenity 4 weeks ago. On week three, I noticed red breakouts or rash on my face. My face never breaks out. It’s always been free from acne or rashes. I’m not saying it’s the Evenity but it’s the only new drug I’ve started. Has anyone ever had any rash or noticeable changes on your face with Evenity or other Osteoporosis medications? Please reach out too me if you have. It could be totally unrelated. Yesterday was my second round of Evenity & except for sore arms & a rash on my face I’m doing okay so far. Thanks for letting me vent my concerns.

Thank you for replying. Before stopping Evenity did you see a dermatologist thinking it may be something else? Or did you make the connect to Evenity right away?

Just got off phone with Evenity (AMGEN) company nurse. Hypersensitivity to drug. Suggested - stop treatment.
AND…of course, had shots yesterday!🙄
Thanks…if not for your post I might not have made connection between itchy rash and Evenity!

It's unfortunate to hear some people with a rash on their face or other areas had doctors tell them they didn't think it was the Evenity, when a simple google search says: "Like most drugs, Evenity can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Symptoms can be mild to serious and can include: skin rash, itchiness, and flushing (temporary warmth, redness, or deepening of skin color)." If that's the reason, antibiotics wouldn't be necessary, would they?

When I was on Evenity, I did experience redness and flushing of the face. This happened every time I took the drug. My doctor took me off Evenity after talking to the manufacturer of the drug, and put me on Reclast. Evenity was not a good match for me.

While taking Tymlos, I too had a red “rash” that my PCP, via a dermatologist, diagnosed as rosacea. My cheeks and chin were hot, red and felt like they were on fire for about two weeks. The rash disappeared and has not returned (knock wood) since discontinuing Tymlos.

I had so many issues with Tymlos and ended up going to a pain med doc who did pinpoint steroid injections. My guess was that although it is a possibility that Tymlos caused the rash, I can’t rule out that the pain injections were really the culprit. I am currently on Evenity and have taken 15/16 out of 23/24 doses. Best to you all!

I've had a rash all over my face using tymlos for 2 yrs. Dermatologist said it wasn't the tymlos, and all his dx, and creams haven't worked. Prior, in 2018, on Forteo, kept getting a similar rash all over my back. Doctors never figured it out, but again it wasn't the drug. However, once I stopped Forteo, it went away and never came back. These doctors don't know or care. I am finishing my 15th tymlos pen this month, DXA, in a few weeks. I don't have much hope. Dr said Prolia next, which I won't do, and I've told him from day one,nor reclast. I need severe back surgery, so that stuff is out. I failed bisphosphates, so I am out of options.

Hi @garycorb

In addition to the rash on my face, I had weird, unheard of, and some very severe, reactions to Tymlos. My doc, for some reason, never thought Tymlos caused the problems, however, after 9-1/2 months of it, I'd had enough and told him I wanted to stop the treatment to see if the issues would clear. He finally agreed . . . all issues cleared within a few days to a week. A full year of Evenity and I had no reactions save a bit of pain and swelling at the injection sites for a few days. I've had more Reclast infusions than recommended and I, too, declined Prolia (thanks, in large part, to those who cared enough to post on this board).

I hope your upcoming DEXA results are positive! I'm sorry to hear that you've had a difficult time with your OP treatment.

Happy Holidays! Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable season and best wishes for happiness and good health in 2025. Cheers!

I just did my second set of shots and so far no rash. I did the reclast for 5 years and was told that’s all you can do it for.. I didn’t mind that once a year

I hope you have success with the Evenity, it just didn’t agree with me. I have had two years of Reclast and since my numbers improved my endocrinologist advised me that I can now have a break. That being said she has also ordered a full blood work up again to check the bone markers in 6 months. I am hoping that I can continue my break with Reclast. I agree with you though the once a year with Reclast is so much more convenient.

I’m so glad that it worked for you. I’m hoping the evenity works for me bc so far nothing has.. I just wish I could get this rib pain figured out. I had this before I started the shots.
I’m so glad I have people on here that I can talk to.

Beanieone you said " I had weird, unheard of, and some very severe, reactions to Tymlos." Would you post the reactions that you had to Tymlos . I have had flusing, rash, pounding heart, which finally stopped 5 1/2 months into it.
