Do you have a nephrologist? Do you have an autoimmune disease? Are you dehyrated or have you done unusual exercise or lack thereof? I get a Cystatin C test- a different kind of eGFR- that is more stable and reassuring. The same drop happened to me two years ago and I still don't know why but my eGFR is now stable. I avoid NSAIDS, contrast and other things that affect kidneys.
What is contrast?
I might have been dehydrated when it was taken I have many illnesses. But until last yr when I was diagnosed with aki was I really paying attention to this
See if you can get an egfr from a Cystatin C that might help. If not, maybe try another creatinine based egfr well-hydrated. You may have still dropped but at least you would know it is accurate.
Ultrasound contrast refers to the use of contrast agents during ultrasound imaging. These agents enhance the ultrasound image . Not good for kidney disease patients
@m1miller Most nephrologists will tell us an eGFR of 30 is where we start questioning the use of contrast. Low dose or no contrast at that point, whenever possible.
@ajnos Our kidneys clear contrast material out of our system. As our kidney function declines, we want to avoid stressing them and possible causing more issues. I recently had a knee ablation, and they used a small amount of contrast to "light up" just where they were injecting things. I agreed to it because I am already on dialysis daily.
@tinabear26 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! You have had some good responses already, here! Looking back, have you had an infection recently? New medication that might have this side effect? Dehydration issues? Different processing lab? It must be concerning for you to see this! How are you feeling today?
