Additional tests prediabetic
I am participating in a research study and had a glucose tolerance test. They sent me the results and it puts me in the pre-diabetic category. I emailed the results to my primary doctor and will schedule an appointment with her. What additional tests should i expect to have done? I have never had an A1c test. Should i ask about getting a cortisol level test?

How does one define being in reasonably fit body?
In my case case I look at my average life of 81 years that allows me to walk 3 mi in an hour nonstop. Do steps many floors, 10 give and take. Do up to 4 push ups with body about to give up! And One and a half pull-up.
For food it looks like what Harvard health plate looks like ( I guess Mayo and other credible orgs have similar advice: half plate filled with fruit and veggies, Lots of plant based proteins and cards (beans, peas, seeds, nuts), and whole wheat, potato.
In Other words, simply increasing or decreasing is not a good enough measure whether for food or exercise, For me, I'd like to be independently living, aiming for until my last day.
But How do I get my motivation? BOTH from enjoyment And challenge (even dread of poor fitness) My body tells me when I have enough, be it exertion or food. It has helped me with both sensible weight, usually a result of healthful habits. It also helps with good sound sleep. (sleep experts say it can vary from ~7 hrs to 9 hrs) I use a 20 min nap too, another good habit, sleep experts tell (Scientific American is one such recent source).
Most of all, I draw my healthy habits from my larger aim to live a life of purpose, NOT for the sake of health, which can be a problem as one might say: health For what? This is why finding purpose is often helpful to stay with one's healthy lifestyle. Look up Christopher Hill, psychologist, at Univ of Wash @ St Louis, if u like.
Stay away from Type 2 diabetes, folks, Even though it's on the rise in tandem with obesity rise.
Ozempic or weight loss equivalent. Works great, but may take 6mo before you get results. It consists of self-administered pen type shot only once per week. Not a problem! You will see as weight number goes down so does your glucose number.
Might be beneficial to consider you may be glucose intolerant and you may be manifesting digestion abnormality.
My doctor has told me that i don’t qualify for ozempic. She did write a Rx for metformin. Even if i went to another doctor for the Rx , i can’t afford $1000/ month for Ozempic. I will have to investigate glucose intolerance .
Same here. Shockingly. I’m on a modified keto, no sugar, starch, flour, no red meat. My glucose is 111, cholesterol 200. I ride bike 7 miles/day. Don’t know what else to do?
@topsz that is how I feel. I think I am going to try a modified fast one day a week.
For those of you considering different medications and/or different types of diets make sure you get input from a trusted medical provider that knows your medical history. Things are not always as advertised in promotional hype. Remember that all meds have side effects, most diets too. Weigh these things carefully.
I don’t want to take any meds at this point, or ever really. Just trying to find out what’s going on with my body!! Probably more physical activity needed?
My fasting glucose has been 115 for years. My A1c was 6.2. When I was given the diagnosis of prediabetic, I lost 30 lbs by not eating anything that was processed, ie. sold in a box or a bag. Hard to do! Over 2 years I lost 30lbs so my BMI is 23.8 normal. My A1c came down to 5.7, still prediabetic, but lower than before.
@seapen , that is wonderful. I think i need to focus on being more attentive to my eating . I also need to up my exercising. I was sidelined with some orthopedic injuries recently, but am cleared now for most activities.
@topsz , same here. I wish my doctor would just take my desire to lose weight seriously. She attributes it to aging! I have gained too much weight in the last year for it to be just that. I am just wondering how I can up my protein intake on a lower calorie diet
