Second Reclast infusion

Has anyone been prescribed a second Reclast infusion 6 months after the first infusion? I thought it was a yearly infusion but my doctor is saying I should have one at the 6 month point.

So, I have had my first and I think my last Reclast infusion due to the side effects that I have continued to experience and I shared this with my endocrinologist. My endocrinologist suggested that on my one year anniversary instead of the Reclast infusion that I have a Denosumab injection. I’ve looked up the potential side effects from a Denosumab injection and worry more now than before. Is there anyone on here that has had this injection and if so, how are you doing?

I had my first Reclast infusion in June 2024 and was expecting to have a second one in June 2025. The rheumatologist said that he is now spacing them two years apart. So, June 2026.

Interesting. Is he spacing them farther apart because of all the negative reports of side effects? Makes you wonder.

What was his reasoning for the 2year spacing ?

I’ve got Zometa infusions every 6months. Had the first one 5 weeks ago and was ill for a week. I’m hoping the 2nd dose goes better but I’m scheduling off work for a week anyway. I’m taking it for bone loss due to exemestane as breast cancer Rx.

He said that two years apart is the new protocol. I didn’t have any side effects.

Hubby had first injection of Reclast in April. No problems. Due for second next April.
Can you please tell us what side effects you've been having with it?

Two days after my first Reclast Infusion I developed this pain in both shoulders, Right forearm and left foot. The pain relieves some as the day goes by. After being in bed for about a hour I’m awakened by this intense pain and unable to move my right arm without assistance. The more I move it throughout the day the better it feels. Some nights I’m wakened by this pain 5/6 times. I also feel a bit nauseated; that too seems to improve as the day goes on; only to return the next morning. I’ve started physical therapy and one day it seems a little better and the next day not so good. My endocrinologist says the Reclast infusion did not cause this and suggested I consult my rheumatologist. It is odd, look up the potential side effect from Reclast ! My endocrinologist wants to do another infusion in about 4 months with a different medication; something called Denosumab. I looked up the side effects and pretty much the same as Reclast. Not quite sure as to what I am going to do; frustrating!

Thanks for sharing that, dannyandebbie. So sorry you've had those problems, and hope you feel better soon! Maybe hubby's just been lucky, so far.

Hopefully the infusion helps your husbands bone density with zero complications!
