Reoccurrence of colon cancer

Was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in May of 2015, had a color resection with no post op problems.did a 6 month regime of chemo. Pet scan in october was free of cancer. In Jan of 2015 ,I completed my chemo. In June of 2016 developed pain in abdomen, new pet scanned showed 3 hot spots, 1 lymph node in groin, mass on the outside of my colon wall, and a area around my belly button. Restarted chem in August of 2016, just had a fresh pet scan done 1 week ago it shows no decrease in size of the cancer but it shows a new lump ode that is involved .

I do not understand why a reoccurring cancer is happening, I'm not handling this well and the stress on my wire and family is sky rocketing
. My doctor idem so vert capable but is lacking in communication. Feel the time is right for a second opinion.why does it seem the colon cancer reoccurs so much.

How are you doing? Have you started Xeloda (capecitabine) treatment yet?

At the first of the year you mentioned that you were dealing with a recurrence of colon cancer.

I was wondering how you were doing with that and if you had started any treatments. Please feel free to touch base with us and let us know how you are doing as you feel comfortable doing so.

I am so sorry to hear this as a person who also had reoccurrence of colon cancer to my liver (stage four). I got a second opnion in the beginning of my diagnosis and found an oncologist who is brilliant, compassionate, I can clearly understand him, and most of all I trust that he is doing everything he can for me. When you are truly comfortable with your cancer care team, the stress level goes way down. It is never too late for a second or even third opinion. Good luck to you.

I do not have colon cancer. I had my 12 th colonoscopy yesterday and am 68. My doc told me to quit worrying.it runs in my family.

Hi Patricksgirl, In my opinion there is a difference between being proactive about prevention and worrying. It sounds like you are taking your health seriously, especially knowing that you have a family history of colorectal cancer. I do too. During my second colonoscopy they removed a pre-cancerous polyp. I plan to continue having regular colonoscopies. However, I don't think about it between colonoscopies. How often do you get a colonoscopy? Do you worry about cancer between your screening tests?

No I have been cancer free for 2 1/2 years. I feel better right now than I have in five years. I took 12 treatments of oxaliplatin and 5 fu. The dose was high but looking back it was worth it.
