Breast Radiation: I feel very tight in rib area, anyone else?

Posted by sharon44r @sharon44r, Nov 19 5:59am

I’m on my 11 treatment of breast radiation and I feel very tight in rib area. Rib area feels sore under breast. Anyone else have that? I read radiation can cause rib fractures. I will tell my dr today. I think if my breast weren’t large and moving it might not hurt as much

Left Breast multi foci in 1 quadrant lobular . Had full breast radiated. It was my choice to do it since I’m not sure if I can handle the hormone blockers.
I had
AREA BEING TREATED: LEFT Breast
TOTAL PLANNED DOSE (Gy): 42.4
PLANNED NUMBER OF FRACTIONS: 16
TREATMENT TECHNIQUE: 3D-CFT
CONCURRENT CHEMO: NO

The only thing that was hard was the position on the table and holding my breath. It made my ribs sore. Done for 2 days now and my breast is a bit blotchy and the nip is sore. They told me it keeps working for another 7 days or so. They say the deep breaths protect your lungs and heart. I sure hope so🙏
Good luck to you🤗 yes it’s an immotionsl process. Us women are strong!
Didn’t get to tired yet

Sorry it was a repeat

Woo Hoo Sharon! You’ve done well. Thank you for sharing your good news. Remember to continue with aquafor for at least 7 days since the radiation is still working. Hugs.

I've my radiation soon & wondered what your treatment was. How many Gy & and fractions.
Was it 40Gy in 3weeks all 3 areas or 26Gy in 1week
I'm really concerned about having my lower lung radiated. Did you find that an issue or effect your breathing post radiotherapy.
Thanks

Thank you, I meant to send that to someone that was asking about radiation.
But I so appreciate your kindness.
Good luck to us all 🙏🏻

I had 30Gy over 10 fractions. They told me the radiation was very precise and wouldn't affect my lungs. but I do have post radiotherapy fibrosis in the right lung. I had radiotherapy to my right chest wall, axilla and scapula and have now, I think, quite a lot of fibrosis in these areas. However, with regular stretching exercises it doesn't stop me from doing anything.

Yikes.! You had less than I did .. I better 🙏🏻 that I don’t get bad fibrosis . Right now I am getting a bit more sore.
They told me the sane thing that wouldn’t hurt lungs and heart. .
You did have to hold your breath alot during treatments right?
How long had it been since you had radiation? I read long term effect could happen even after a year. Well I hope I made the right choice. It was mine to make.

How was it discovered you had the fibrosis of the lung and will there be any long-term effects?

Good morning- I’m 61. Glad that you are done with this part of the journey. I had 15 days (2023)radiation w/ a booster on left breast. I used calendula cream, but doctor had to call me in prescription(SSD) to help skin heal. I did get breast infection- surgeon called in a strong antibiotic.I did had 3 lymph node removed (all negative). I did have slight swelling( a few months later)which ended up being lymphedema ( caught early)- went to lymphedema specialist she was an OT. I do have fibrosis in scar areas and use vitamin E and massage daily. I currently do yoga, pranayama, walk and acupuncture. Journal your walk. I did and was able to tell doctor when I was feeling what. I’m doing well with my “new” normal life.

Hello!
Just wondering what stage and grade you were diagnosed with since 3 lymph nodes removed?
