MDS in a 75 year old male
First off, I want to thank Mayo Clinic and their Team of Doctors for treating my father who was diagnosed about 27 months ago with MDS and given a 4–6-month chance of survival. It's been a roller coaster of a ride, but he is doing well. Chemo knocked him down a few times, however his resilience and strong spirt keeps him afloat. He has Chemo shots 3x's one week and 2x's the next week.

I have had MDS for a year now. On chemo also. Hopefully the chemo will continue to work for him. You are in the care of a great medical team and they will do their best to help him out. Take care.
I am glad he is doing well. I agree with the medical team. As long as your day wants the treatments, there is opportunity to keep him doing well.
Thanks for sharing the positive experience. Can I ask what Mayo campus is he being treated at?
My 77 yr old mother has MDS and is currently at Mayo-LaCrosse, was seen at Rochester also, but will get treatment in LaCrosse for now. Also, what treatment is he receiving now? Mom is going to start Azacitidine and Venetoclax after Thanksgiving.
He is being treated at the Luther Campus in Ean Claire by Dr. Hutab. The
spelling my not be accurate.
Hello @jonkerri and welcome to Mayo Connect. I appreciate you posting an encouraging message to @yellowlab123 and for sharing your experience with MDS.
From your post it appears that you have had MDS for a year and on chemo. How are you feeling? I hope that your follow-up blood tests are showing good maintenance or improvement.
Please continue to post, I look forward to hearing from you again.
I am feeling well. A little tired, but that seems to be a common side effect of MDS and Chemo. Follow-up blood tests are where they need to be. The Chemo is doing what it is supposed to to do and so is the Neulasta. Both are currently working for me. Thanks for asking.
At 79 I to am on vidza and Vento since December 2023 due principally to blasts exceeding minimum for AML. Admitted to hospital for 30 days to administer first chemo dose which can create a life threatening toxic syndrome so it can quickly be responded to.
I was in awful shape. It came on so fast. I go to OCSRI in Tulsa OK. I'm on my 12th cycle. With 5 mutuations recent labs show my blood #s returning to normal more each cycle. I am so grateful 🙏 for OCSRI, St John and both staffs that support the oncologist....they are beautiful people.
Bless you on the rest of your journey indeed u r in good 🙌 hands. Happy Thanksgiving 😊
PS. I confused two comments so excuse me, the important thing is sharing info.
