Woke up November 2020 to a burning nose, just had a cold snap.Went from 70's to mid 30's Wife thought allergies.Never had them before. To make a really long story short, waited about 4 months before seeing ENT,1st visit said I had allergies, redness in nostrals, little inflammed, perscribed zertec, flonaise.Finished zertec, stopped taking flonaise because its for congestion.Have not been congested for 4 years. My sinuses feel wide open, thats why it burns.Had them checked,nothing.3 ENT appts. No diagnosis ,just lots of tests. When it started I would get fantom smells, mostly cigarette smoke,I never smoked, went away after about 3 months. Now its weird smells I cant discribe.Comes and goes. The insde of my nose is always dry,I use vaseline to keep it moist, but soon goes dry again. As far as medical answers 0.Have been to neurologist,MRI,s CT scans, thousands of dollars in tests still no diagnosis.I am very healthy, good teeth 64 and very active. From what I can tell its mostly my right nostril, because when it get too bad I will wad up a ball of tissue and place it up in there to block the air.Ive used every spay, drops, moisturizer,to no avail. The only thing that helps is warmth, cuping my hands over nose, hot shower, mask.Dont want to do that forever.Even in summer,my nose feels cold, better but not normal!!!!I am at a loss, just want to feel normal, and this ist it.My Neurologist thought Neuropathy, put me on gabapentin, didnt work.HELP

That sounds very frustrating. Have you seen a dermatologist? I had a shsrp stinging sensation in my nostril once and it turned out to be a bacterial infection. My dermatologist took a swab and sent it to the lab. It was positive for strep and I was prescribed an antibiotic ointment to apply in the nostril for about a week. It resolved. Hope they can figure yours out.

Hi,
How awful for you! That must be so hard to deal with. I have a chronic sore in my left nostril that never goes completely away. The doctor prescribed Mupirocin 2% ointment. It takes the sore away but it always returns. It's an antibiotic. You have to get it from a doctor not over the counter. If I don't use it I get a very bad sore that bleeds. The ointment is very soothing. It might help in your situation. It wouldn't hurt to try it.

Also prayer helps. God is there for you and can fix your nose. I will say a prayer for you also.

No, I haven't had a biopsy. I've had this situation for over 50 years and have seen many doctors about it but none of them ever suggested a biopsy. The doctor I have now is doing the best for this situation with the Mupirocin and it works. I use it whenever I feel a soreness in my nose and it keeps it away. I think I'll just stay with this treatment. I'm 78 and at the age of being leery about any new medical treatments in case they mess up something else that's starting to fail in my aging body! It doesn't hurt unless I let it get out of control and become a sore but I don't let it go to that point. I always use the ointment. So I'll just live with it.
