Breast Radiation: I feel very tight in rib area, anyone else?

Posted by sharon44r @sharon44r, Nov 19 5:59am

I’m on my 11 treatment of breast radiation and I feel very tight in rib area. Rib area feels sore under breast. Anyone else have that? I read radiation can cause rib fractures. I will tell my dr today. I think if my breast weren’t large and moving it might not hurt as much

I am feeling that clamp and I have 2 more treatment out of 16. Tried stretching earlier. My left arm is hurting too 😩
Hope we both feel better. Did yours start hurting during treatment too?
Mine is on the left and I hope it doesn’t effect my heart.

Hi Sharon, no my “fibrosis” has developed after the radiation. I had no pain during treatment. It is not really incapacitating. I can do what I want to do but the sensation of tightness and slight resistance is always there. Another concerning thing is the development of small little lumps in the skin. They feel like little hard fat lumps?! Doctors don’t express any concern about them, which I suppose is good but they haven’t been able to explain them to me🤔. I find the best exercise for the fibrosis is stretching through yoga poses and playing tennis. Fortunately I am right handed. Wishing you all the best🙏🙏🤗

Thanks. For the response. Last night had such pressures in my chest. It scared me. I did read that fibrosis could strait early. I hope this is just sore muscles pain (yeah right) from the position. I can now hardly get my left arm back on the table without pain. Thank God so far I Am not tired and really not burning yet too much. My pain is deep in me.
I will say prayers for us. 🙏🙏🙏❤️ thanks again

Hi
Stretching is helping me. 1 more radiation treatment left 🙏
I don’t want to take hormone blockers, since I have so many other issues. Hopefully I will be ok. I read with invasive lobular you could be resistant to the hormone blockers. Wonder if there is a blood test to see if they are lowering estrogen levels. I am post menopause. I will as the doctor.

Well done Sharon, that bit is over!🙏😃. After my radiation I treated my skin several times a day with moisturiser , brand recommended by radiation nurse, Dermaveen, and a zinc cream, Sudocream. It has kept my skin well and intact. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.🙏🤗🤗.
Went to physio yesterday and the young lady treating me is excellent. I feel great after a session but unfortunately the fibroses scarring retracts again after a little while, so a constant stretching regime is required. She noticed I am getting some oedema in my upper arm. She said this is not uncommon long after the radiation is over.!!☹️

Gee.. I have a lot to look forward too 😱🤨 did u have lymph nodes removed?
I’ve been using aquafor an eucerin, so far just a but of burning and measle looking rash.they told me it might get worse since radiation is still working at least 7 days.
So kind of you for your responses. Thanks again

Good morning- I’m 61. Glad that you are done with this part of the journey. I had 15 days (2023)radiation w/ a booster on left breast. I used calendula cream, but doctor had to call me in prescription(SSD) to help skin heal. I did get breast infection- surgeon called in a strong antibiotic.I did had 3 lymph node removed (all negative). I did have slight swelling( a few months later)which ended up being lymphedema ( caught early)- went to lymphedema specialist she was an OT. I do have fibrosis in scar areas and use vitamin E and massage daily. I currently do yoga, pranayama, walk and acupuncture. Journal your walk. I did and was able to tell doctor when I was feeling what. I’m doing well with my “new” normal life.

Thank you for info. So far so good . Itching at nip. Doctor told me if that happens to put hydrocortisone 1% on it, just that area. Moisturizer 3 times a day. Hope it doesn’t get too bad. Time will tell🤨
Good luck to you. I had 16 days but tech said I didn’t have a booster.

I've my radiation soon & wondered what your treatment was. How many Gy & and fractions.
Was it 40Gy in 3weeks all 3 areas or 26Gy in 1week
I'm really concerned about having my lower lung radiated. Did you find that an issue or effect your breathing post radiotherapy.
Thanks
