Squamous cell carcinoma of the scalp (skin)
This is on behalf of my father recently diagnosed with squamous cell
Carcinoma on his scalp. He’s 95 and debating on getting the MOHS procedure done. He has mobility issues and not a lot of energy. If he chooses to leave it untreated (it’s 2 1/2” in diameter now) what will his life be like. Dying of cancer can be quite awful I understand. Has/is anybody else dealing with this decision for themselves or a loved one?

I am lucky. The only residual effect is some loss of feeling in my forehead presumably due to the necessity of severing some nerves during the Moh's. Now I am dealing with a possible ALS diagnosis, so maybe not that lucky!

7 ReactionsThank you for your concern and went to another doctor for a second opinion, but am second thoughts about that, instead of radiation on two areas (1st opinion), they want to perform surgery in all 3 locations (1 on scalp and 2 on each side of my face (cheek area), which is of great concern, for obvious cosmetic reasons vs. the Efudex, a topical chemo cream. Am scheduled for this procedure in mid-January, 2025. Stating the obvious, this is of great concern. Any thoughts/suggestions?

3 ReactionsHi all, I had scalp surgery and they got it all out. It was on top of my head. My hair dresser found it.
They had to cut a piece of my hair out. It was very painful for me. Had no idea they had topical chemo.

4 ReactionsAs I posted previously . I am 85 - at age 82 I had Squamous on my scalp .
My GP cut it out in his office and followed up withh Efudex , the topical chemo cream . for a few weeks .
NO FURTHER ISSUES -- PROBLEM SOLVED .

3 ReactionsI am healing from my Moh’s surgery on my cheek a couple weeks ago. It’s the second time I’ve had this, first time was my forehead a few years ago, they said it wasn’t connected. Consequence of living in Florida most of my life! I’m 71, there’s some pain the next day, ice and otc pain meds takes care of that.

I spend 6moonths in California -- Brown spots from lots of golf .
I use EFUDEX - A topical chemo cream procribed by my dermo. doctor . to remove them .
Same for small basil cell spots , typically on my hands and arms .
