Pain after a Fall: Where to get after care?
I have been having a lot of lower back pain and neck pain after falling off my walker. I fell hard on my back and left side. My left hip has finally recovered but my back is full of sharp pains on the left side lower back. And back of my neck. I’m on Coumadin and need to be careful of brain bleed.
That happened a month ago. Been painful since then.
Two days ago I did the same thing but fell on my right knee and my knee has hurt me.
I live in an assisted living facility .
The hospital told me and the assisted living facility that everything is ok.
The ALF did not believe that I had to go to the Hospital since they couldn’t find anything. I’m in a lot of lower back pain and the back of my neck and hips
Now I feel like a baby for going to the ER and they feel that I should not have gone. I’m also on Coumadin blood thinner.
Now since that happened I need to go to a nursing home which I don’t want to go.
That’s twice. Since then they asked my occupational therapist they don’t need her. I still have pain and since the hospital said I was fine I don’t like the hospital’s decision. Now what?
I’m 71 and don’t drink or smoke . I think this ER was quick to discharge me and now I don’t know what to do.

That’s what I received. “This is billing “ nothing else except “sorry “ I even used the phone number they gave my to call back and I got billing.
I don’t owe them a dime
@andytheman I’m confused re: your PCP only comes once a year? Are you in some type of facility or home?
I am so sorry that happened to you. Do you have a friend or a patient advocate to belp you. Unfortunately the healthcare given is not up to what it used to. It seems no one listens to the person who has concerns and hurts. Hugs!
I am sorry this happened to you and what you wrote really scares me like the ALF is trying to hide what happened to you! I’m not sure what state you are in and how it works, but usually there’s an official report that has to be filed so that The state makes sure that the ALF stays safe and reliable for the people it cares for. I do agree that you need an advocate. They used to call them an ombudsman every facility or hospital has one and the purpose is to represent the individual who may be harmed, which is you . Your state also has an ombudsman. It can take several months for healing to occur from a fall, but in the meantime, you should be getting care. Special care that can take the form of massage therapy, acupuncture, acupressure, help with heat and ice and regular visits with an attending doctor . You should also be in physical therapy to recover, and Medicare pays for this. I would think you would be having PT twice a week that Medicare pays for as the result of a fall and needed muscular stimulation to recover. Please find an advocate if you can’t do it yourself, I know how hard it is when you feel miserable to get what you need from the medical care system. Good luck.
I had hard fall onto concrete in June 2024 and am also in daily bad pain. What is helping me greatly is medical cannabis. I use Trulieve’s Indica 9 Pound Hammer serum at bedtime (amount first mo: 1/2 grain of rice. 2nd mo and thereafter: amt of small grain of rice. I squeeze it out onto end of toothpick and put the toothpick under my tongue for 5 to 8 min. Please remember that Indica type of cannabis means for bedtime (“in da couch”). Sativa means daytime type of cannabis.
If u need pain relief in the daytime, squeeze -1/2 grain of rice of Sativa 9 Pound Hammer serum onto the end of a toothpick and put it under ur tongue. This product wears off after 5.5 hours so after that your pain will return.
Avoid foods that will increase pain: sugary foods/drjnks, coffee, chocolate, pepper, hot sauce, vinegar, citric acid in foods and supplements, food dyes, seed oils (Canola, grapeseed oil and corn oil for example), soy sauce. Go gluten free in your diet and u will see a lot less pain. Eat organic produce and Free Range chicken and Wild Caught Atlantic Salmon or Coho Salmon. Avoid canned foods and all Processed Foods.
After listening to all the comments, I have to wonder why so many people seem to have difficulty getting a doctor to really listen to them. Let me ask this question...Has anyone had a doctor call back, out of the blue, with some sort of answer to a problem you were having. Or, saying that they spent some time perusing your file to see if they could find an answer to your medical issue? I have only had one pain management doc reach out with what he thought might be the answer to my issue. That was back in 2017/ Since then, nothing. Just the routine ten minutes of of getting no real help. NEXT!
