What do you do for Neuropathy itch?

Good morning everyone. I am desperately in need of help with what is called Neuropathy itch. I have SFN (small fiber neuropathy) and am a medical cannabis user for pain. I don't know what to use for this itching. It appears that it reaches through several skin layers. No matter how much you scratch you make it worse, not better. Once you start itching, it's over....your are stuck scratching.

Have you tried certain baths? Oatmeal? I have a steroid cream called Triamcinolone Acetonide. Not exactly a wonder drug. Is there a better one?

The itching results in a terrible level of anxiety. I try to run away from it and cannot. It reminds me of summer in Minnesota when the mosquitoes launch their attacks. I am female with "O" negative blood which they just devour.

Even if you have a solution for other than neuropathy, please share and I will happily do the research. The stress of isolated living and a form of depression that is about our global community also creeps in.

The only thing that works right now for food is gelato.......Salted caramel, if you please. I hope you are all well and blessed with good health today.
Chris

@madje

For immediate relief I put a damp, frozen, light towel over the area and it gets rid of the itch. My husband came up with this idea and it works quickly.

I’ve been troubled, often intensely from Neuropathy "et al", I have found over the years the only real relief I’ve found is from a "cold shower", I mean cold and also from meditation,

I would certainly ask a dermatologist what kind of topicals there are for this. My allergist didn’t offer me topicals for my hives (though I take Xolair and antihistamine). I went to a dermatologist and she gave me topicals, though I don’t remember the name of them

Or maybe your dermatologist of allergist can give you prednisone 5 mg. That is what I take when my other remedies don’t work for my hives. It is low dose. It does not have to be weaned off of, per my allergist

I do use ice packs on specific areas of hives, but it sounds like your itch is more of an internal thing. Good luck. In the meantime, the gelato sounds like a good workaround😊

Sorry for your problem; it is similar to my symptoms. At times I feel so panicky as I can't stay still and feel hopeless. Wish the medical profession would solve it for us few (?) who have notalgia paresthetica.

@jchet

I order Immunovites, NA R-Alpha Lipoic Acid, 600 mg. from Amazon. Sometimes I take on an empty stomach which is the preferred way, but occasionally I take with food when it bothers my stomach. Hope this helps.

I'm replying to a dated post 2023 and hope you are available to discuss positive results with taking Na-R-ala. I've been taking R-Alpha Lipoic Acid for about 7 months for nerve pain. And, ironically, I think it's helping my radiation proctitis. But the nerve pain has not gone away and it's been a bummer to exercise and walk.
