It definitely did happen to me. I was fortunate that a local medical center offered a physical and occupational therapy program designed for chemotherapy patients. It helped greatly with regaining my balance and my walking.

I was hoping it would take away the pain and annoyance of the neuropathy, It didn't, but I'm happy for what it did,

Again, my neuropathy is from chemo treatments. I plead ignorance about other types.

Yes, I have a very similar if not the same condition and experience with numbness in my feet that also effects my balance. And I think I have found a remedy by using a cucumber and aloe vera infused body lotion on a daily basis.
Here is how I am applying the lotion that dispenses from a pump bottle: Apply the lotion rather generously by dispensing it onto the foot span and toes. Then distribute and smoothen it out to cover the entire foot up to the ankle. Do not hesitate to pull thin socks over the feet and leave the socks dressed for about half or 3/4 of the day. The socks soak up the lotion, thus keeping the skin moist which also is the essential key to the improvement of this type of neuropathy in the feet. And for this reason any salt solution and foot bath works against the moisturizing application of the lotion. At night for a good night's sleep again use the lotion and do not use any socks and possibly leave the feet without being covered by a comforter or bed sheet. In the morning, after the shower use a scraper device to remove all 'old' remnant of the lotion and apply new lotion. It may be considered non-hygenical but possibly consider to use the same pair socks as previous as the fabric holds and keeps the moisturizing effect. Having applied this treatment for about 18+ months it continues to improve the neuropathic condition and the balance. Persistent application of the lotion and the recognition and observation of the effects did lead to the vanishing numbness and improved balance. It's a bit of a journey. Stick with it.
