High body thermostat

Posted by rbelling @rbelling, 8 hours ago

All my adult life I have been hot. I hardly ever wear long sleeves or a coat in Iowa - even during the winter months. Recently, I completed a full 20-day cleanse of my GI tract. It was a liquid diet, balanced nutrition, 120oz water daily, saltwater flush in the morning on an empty stomach. I actually felt really good on it. AND ... I wasn't Hot all the time. My body thermostat was actually in line with how others I work with were feeling.
I transitioned back to solid foods and after my first solids ingestion, the heat returned. It's like food triggers an internal inferno.
It's not gustatory sweating ... or Frey Syndrome (I'm an ENT specialty clinic nurse and have researched this). This is an all over - I am completely hot - type of feeling.
My work colleagues have the room temperature set at 70* and I have a fan at my desk blowing right on me.
With exertion, my head sweats to the point of my hair becoming wet.

As far as my health ... I'm a 56 y.o. post-menopausal female. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, vitiligo, inappropriate tachycardia and depression. I also struggle with chronic joint pain - osteoarthritis.
I'm on Synthroid 88mcg, Corlanor 5mg, fluoxetine 80mg, Ibuprofen, vitamin D3, magnesium, calcium and melatonin.

Anyone have any ideas?? My pcp doesn't nor does GI. I'm a nurse with access to a lot of specialty providers and no one seems to know what could be causing this.
Appreciate the help

@rbelling - You sound like me! I had this symptom for several years after a bout with Graves disease (hyperthyroid) that eventually resolved. I thought I was destined to be hot and sweaty forever.

One of the things my PCP had me do was to have a complete "medication checkup" with a clinical pharmacist. They did find a few side effects and interactions that led to ned changes, but sadly did not cure the sweating problem for me.

However, a few months ago, I was diagnosed with a heart blockage and a number of medicines to treat it were prescribed. Suddenly the problem was solved. When I asked the cardiologist, he said it is not uncommon, when the heart is laboring too hard, to experience the sweating and hot feeling. Getting things settled down helped in my case.

So, you have 2 avenues to explore - your medications - Synthroid mentions heat intolerance and sweating among the side effects, and fluoxetine lists sweating. I was able to see this on on drugs.com.

And since you are on one heart medication, it is possible your heart is involved.

Has anyone suggested a comprehensive medication evaluation? And have you talked to your cardiologist?

This was very informative … I actually did talk to my cardiologist and electrophysiologist. I do have tachycardia and they do not know why. So my heart is working harder than it should. I have a yearly work up between the two of them.
I may revisit with my cardiologist with your info.
I hadn’t read that synthroid can cause sweating. Although, I was still taking it while on the liquid diet and didn’t have this problem. I do have to take synthroid brand name as levothyroxine wouldn’t regulate because of the fillers. Interesting.
I appreciate the info. Thx!
