What's your review of Cochlear Osia 2 System?
I am getting the implants in a week or so. Would like to hear from people who are using these bone conduction devices.

What does Odis stand for? I wore hearing aids for 42 years. Wax buildup kept plugging hearing aids. When I retired from my main job - where I had to converse with patients- I stopped wearing hearing aids. I go every 3- months for wax impaction. I’m sure I will still need to do that, but, would love to hear grandchildren etc I feel disconnected
So I know I am confused about the Osia 2 device. I will know more the end of December when I see my ENT- He said insurance would help cover. I know I will need a pre- authorization on my insurance. Not on Medicare for a couple of years. What’s the difference between Osia and cochlear implant ? I have had issues all my life. Several hearing aids for past 45years. Holes in both eardrums- repairs failed. Now can’t wear hearing aids due to wax impaction. See my Ent every 3- months for wax removal. Eustation tube dysfunction. Hereditary. Thought I would just ride out the hearing loss, but alheizmers also runs in my family. Just starting to get annoyed with not hearing correctly. So sad when I can hear my grand kiddos correctly🙃
I have the Osia bone conduction implant. I am completely deaf in my right ear due to sudden hearing loss in 2018. It has helped me greatly with communication and directional hearing.
That being said, I believe your situation may be totally different from mine. It is good that you already have an upcoming appointment. If you want to be prepared ahead of time, there is a lot of information out there about both the Cochlear implants and the Osia 2 (which is also made by Cochlear). If you research ahead of time, it will give you an opportunity to write down your questions and concerns ahead of your appointment. Your ENT should be able to answer your questions to help you make the best choice for your situation. I wish you the best with whichever option you decide to go with. Being unable to hear is certainly challenging, but there are more options now for those who cannot wear hearing aids.
Best of luck with your procedure. I had an excellent Neuro-Otologist perform my single sided OSIA2 in 2023; however, please be AWARE that there is an OSIA3 available now that I wish I had due to its MRI capabilities. No real issues to report post-op. However, be prepared that the post-op mild numbness you may experience in the quadrant of your scalp can potentially linger for a year prior to dissipating. As a 73 yr old guy in FL I still wear baseball caps that impair the effectiveness of my OSIA2 as it mutes the quality of sound, tempting me to not wear it. Definitely purchase extra tethered clips to reduce losing it as the OSIA can easily become dislodged. Remember it takes a short time for your mind to wrap around using it so be patient. Overall it has helped but still challenging to hear in group settings, restaurants, etc. the App itself needs work as it isn’t as good as the Phonak App I had. I went on Google and ordered a large supply of batteries, which I change out every 1-1/2 days. However I don’t stream with my Osia2 and only occasionally use the Mini Mic which drains the battery, but helpful if you’re at a restaurant and be clipped to someone you’re with. I have mine adjusted twice a year for a tune-up as you may still experience some echoing and sound fading. So it will be cleaned at the time. If you live in a humid area of the country definitely get their humidity jar and place your OSIA in it overnight
