Is there a supplement that really works?

Posted by debbik @debbik, Nov 14, 2024

I was diagnosed 6 years ago with osteoporosis. I thought I was doing everything possible to build bone density but my latest bone density showed it got worse by 6%. I am taking a supplement called ‘bone-up’ which is supposed to be natural and has StimuCal. I’m wondering if there are better supplements out there that really help? Has anyone seen positive bone density results? If so, I would love to know what you are taking and doing. By the way, I’m 65, and try to be fairly active. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this link! I have been overwhelmed trying to read McCormick's GREAT BONES (which I've loaned to a younger friend trying to cope with a very doctrinaire endo) and explain what I've learned so far to friends who can't figure out what to do - but this is the best primer! Dropping my collagen right now since it is probably the source of my anxiety (not the election) and getting only type 1 from his site. It's all here - the mechanics of it all, the options, details of exercise, etc.

I too had anxiety with Collegn. I read that GABA a supplement helps with anxiety. It really worked for me. I was reomended by another osteospirosis site. Iwill look for the book. I wouldn't hurt to ck I to it .

I had actually been taking GABA Calm for months until I joined an anxiety summit and heard the expert say that if you have hypertension - I do, very labile and easily spiraling - you should NOT take GABA Calm. So that was the end of that. I'm switching to McCormick's collagen and will report how that goes...

It's Dr. Keith McCormick's Osteo Naturals collagen, which is only type 1, the one for bones. He says (in the radio interview posted earlier in this chain) the ones with numerous types of collagen added interfere with serotonin level and can leave you anxious and depressed. It has a couple of other good features as well. It's not the friendliest website but to me it sounded convincing.

So I'm one of those that have side effects to many drugs. I decided to try supplements before trying some of these meds with all the side effects. I did try a smaller dose of alendronate (sp) and had side effects. Was given sample of another drug and had one dose (the goal was to take one a month to see what reactions I would have) and stomach issues. The pharmacist said I would see if I really react after the 2nd dose but since I saw the Dexascan, I chose to stick with the supplements. Been taking them for about 8 months and my last dexascan showed a 12% improvement. Went to Mayo in January for their input. The doctors and the facilities were absolutely the BEST. Can't say enough good about this place. That being said, I did go ahead and get the Dexascan that was scheduled before I saw them. I sent results to Mayo for doctor review. She was still a hesitant to just rely on the improvement. Here is what I know for sure. I'm not having all the muscle spams I was having. i don't have the pain in my bones I was feeling. I believe it is working. I do need to put an exercise program back into place to build muscles back but I'm hopeful. Just thought I'd share.

Absolutely. I'm taking Professional Formulas Bone Stim Liquescence (teas. under tongue twice a day - No food 30 minutes before or after you take this. Super Silica Plus - 3 in morning and 3 evening and Liquid Calcium. I'm only taking 2 twice a day now. Also Liquid Calcium and Magnesium Support - 1 day.

I had a couple of phone calls with Keith and was told I'd have to start with a hard drug - was disappointed so went to a lady that people come from all around the country to get her evaluation. She said she could reverse my osteoporosis. I asked how long would it take and she thought I would see improvement in less than a year. Started taking the supplements and I did see and feel the improvement. I've attached a picture of the supplements I used.

Hope it helps. I know this has been a long journey trying to education, understand and research options. All were pretty scarry to me.

I don't mean to belittle this, but... homeopathic remedy? No. Homeopathy is quack science with no scientific basis whatsoever. There is only one group of people promoting homeopathy: the people that sell it.

Apart from that, you're taking calcium and magnesium like everyone else. This regimen isn't doing anything for you that a simple multivitamin doesn't do, and it is not going to fix your osteoporosis.
