@bunnybear What an unpleasant disease to get! I’m so sorry. According to Mayo Clinic, you are contagious until your blisters scab over.
“Chickenpox can be dangerous for some people. Until your shingles blisters scab over, you are contagious. Avoid physical contact with anyone who hasn't yet had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine. That includes people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns.”
I would suggest a serious talk with your doctor.do you think your plans can be changed to another time, if necessary?
I had the full series of both versions of the shingles vaccine. I got shingles anyway. In desperation, I applied some old CBD oil I had to my outbreak on my abdomen. It worked almost immediately to stop the electric-like pain!! I still have a funny kind of numb feeling under my skin after 12 hours but no episodes of shingles pain. I am so thankful! I got this in California but think it might be available everywhere because it has less than 0.3% THC. I will add a picture of the ingredients. I now think everyone ought to keep a bottle of this in their medicine cabinet b/c it is has other medical uses I have seen on here and then if you ever get this awful skin condition you will have it on hand. If you’re concerned, it had no hallucinogenic activity when applied to the skin.
I got the J&J shot and then the Mederma. I got sick after each one. I have had shingles two times since the Covid Vaccine. After second case of shingles, I waited 6 months to get the vaccine. After the Shingles vaccine, I had neck pain and the both shoulder hurt with pain and weakness going down my arm. I cried every night from the pain waking me up this summer and then I got the shingles blister again. I had Polymyalgia Rheumatica about 8 years ago. I am beginning to think that anyone with an autoimmune history should not have gotten the Covid Vaccines. Has anyone else had this problem?
I heard lotta people getting the shingles shot after shingles you’re not supposed to really I don’t know why they’re giving it to people. I got shingles four years ago still in pain no shingles shot for me. It just put more of the virus in you.
So sorry for you take care❤️
This is scary; since, I too have autoimmune disorder; got the Moderna Covid vaccines back when they first came out; a year later got Covid (while masked always); and then, a year later, got shingles. Currently, what I'm battling, since I had it on my face -- R side; the mucus membranes mouth, nose, eye, upside-down L-shape into my temple -- is worse. After post-swelling and hideous pain and feeling sick for a month, I've been left with a crawling-itchy skin sensation where I wanna rip my face off. NOTHING alleviates this at all! I've been put back on anti-viral and gabapentin to 0% relief. I plaster my face with Aspercreme&Lidocaine and it does NOTHING! Nothing offers me relief. I take enough meds to sleep from about 9pm to 8am (my only way to get relief). My doctor/s have been no help.
Someone wrote about applying CBD oil to the skin, for relief.
Anyone?
Take valtrex
@bunnybear and @becsbuddy - also avoid being around any pregnant women and newborns while in the infectious stage as it can affect the baby! Of course, in public places you don’t know who you come in contact with …🤷🏼♀️
I think @bunnybear posted about the CBD oil. Here is the picture. She didn’t take the picture of the front label.
Unfortunately, once you have had shingles, and especially if you didn’t take an anti viral medication like Valtrex (very important to start within 72 hours of onset), the after effects of shingles can last indefinitely. I have terribly itchy skin and nothing works to relieve it too, so I can only guess it’s because I had shingles a few years ago. I have this permanent itch despite having taken Valtrex within 72 hours both times.
@uncledrew Hi, I just read your comment that said ‘take valtrex’. What is valtrex and what does it do? Have you had shingles? My doctor says I can’t for now. Were you at a good place with your disease? I just further and found that valtrex Is a drug for shingles! But I enjoyed meeting you!
@becsbuddy Valtrex is prescribed for shingles outbreak, but it has to be started 72 hours or earlier to be effective. Still have to go through the pain and discomfort - sometimes for several weeks - but the intensity is somewhat eased.
