I've been on statins for the same amount of time with the same issues. I have to lift my legs into a car. Argue with my doctor every year and she brings out a chart showing my cholesterol levels and percentages for having a heart attack or stroke and strongly advises to continue the statin prescription. The graphics are probably provided by a pharmaceutical company.

Thanks for your reply! I’m seeing my cardiologist in December & will ask his advice then my primary in February to ask hers. I’m tired of this!

My cholesterol has been between 276 and 299 for about 17 years. I take no drugs. I have read more than once that people with high cholesterol live longer than those with low. I am 76. and take no drugs nor do I visit the drug pushers as drugs cause worse reactions than the problem.

I see this is an old post. But I have read more than once, that big pharma started statins to get people on them the rest of their life. Originally stated a higher number of cholesterol, but then lowered it further. I have read that people with low cholesterol get strokes and heart attacks and ones with high do not necessarily. I have also read that people with high cholesterol tend to live longer. I am going with that.

I am 76, and first time I had a test was about 17 yrs ago when it was needed for an insurance company. It was 299. At that time I was going through bad time in my life and eating way too much high fat ice cream etc. But when I quit the ice cream and lost 30 pounds, it has been 265 - 299, last year was 276 which doc's would say I need statins.

Not happening. I walk daily, eat healthier every year.
