Inconsiderate, intimidating neighbors cause depression and anxiety?

@robertwills not as cut and dried here in Canada. Also under law, no tenant can be forced to leave during winter months … which here ca stretch into six months - if you are lucky to get this far.

A lot of people don’t understand depression and think it’s not real. They are angry about something else and then say something that hurts others to make them feel good. We will not tolerate people that do that in any capacity.

The laws in Canada are quite different from those in the USA, in some respects it’s still behind in some respects. We have a Tenants and Landlord committee but they’re so back logged that you’re probably ready for a retirement home by the time they get to your case.

A few years ago I actually had neighbours living below me that were barbecuing in their unit, can you imagine watching your apartment filling up with toxic fumes at night when they did this most often. I reported them several times but by the time they came in to check on them it was too late. I finally got lucky when a temporary superintendent was on duty and he literally sat outside waiting and watching them, finally he caught them and put in a full report. Thankfully he got them evicted, he was truly my hero, it also turned out that the tenants were living here illegally, someone else owned the unit but he sublet it to them without the landlord’s knowledge, this is not an uncommon situation.

You are not understanding what I said: You may have a civil legal action against those neighbors whose smoke and odor of infiltrates your apartment. There are private attorneys who specialize in this type of law, usually called Landlord/Tenant Law. At least in the US many attorneys provide a free initial consultation to see if there's a case. I do not know about Canada but if you do a simple search you will know quickly.

Yes. A similar situation happened to someone I know. It's common for renters to illegally sublet or allow guests to move in without the landlord knowing. In my case the maintenance people must have seen and smelled the smoking by numerous people associated with one apartment but as of now it still continues.

Yes, we can take legal action but as @frouke has mentioned, there is a backlog of cases and landlord/tenant issues don’t take priority over criminal issues. Very often these cases are thrown out of court because of the backlog - and people know the cases only line lawyers’ pockets while placed in the lineup.

Not that cut and dried, unfortunately.

There are solutions that will work, immediately and in time. I am developing a theory that describes successful legal methods, both conventional and novel, that promptly resolves cases like yours and mine.

Vick's is just as good as Mentholatum! I used to use Vick's all the time but lately couldn't find it so bought Mentholatum.

You are right. I'm lucky to have my own place. However, it's in a mobile home park and my neighbors are very close! So far, I've had no problems since my husband died. But in the past, there were plenty of problems! My husband and I just kept praying and eventually all the problem makers either died or moved away. So, keep praying. God will make things work out perfectly. I'll say a prayer for you also.
