Surprised at cost of hospital room & no instructions given for SLT
I was SHOCKED to get a second invoice for over $2,500 for the tiny hospital room that the 15-minute SLT was performed in. It was more than the invoice for the procedure! I was told that I would need to go to "another building" for the procedure but was never informed that it was the hospital and would be charged separately. Does anyone know the reason why they have the SLT machine in the hospital instead of the clinic? I was also very disappointed that I was not given any sort of instructions on what to expect after the procedure. It took my eye almost a week to not be red and tender.

It sounds like you got charged for a facility fee. I refuse to go to a clinic or hospital that charges that if I can help it. Sometimes insurance will cover a facility fee and other times, they will not.
IF they did not tell you there would be facility fee for the use of the clinic or hospital, then you can tell them that and most of the time they will waive the fee.
It happened to me several years ago with one of my children. I was not told it was a facility fee for them to have an outpatient 15 minute procedure and I got a bill for it. When I told them I had never heard of that, they told me that the front desk was suppose to inform the patient of that. I wasn't informed and so they waived the facility fee.
If this is the case with you, I pray you are reimbursed. Bless you.....
My insurance will pay for a surgical center or doctor's office procedure but not if done in a hospital. Then I pay the co-pay. It seems we learn as we go along. No one every tells you beforehand. And when you are sick, you don't think to ask.
I've had SLT treatment twice now in each eye. It was done in my optomologist's office and was fully covered by insurance. I had not heard about a facility fee before. I once got taken to a hospital in ambulance due to a piece of meat getting stuck in my throat. A doctor removed it, and my insurance covered that too. I have medicare plus an AARP suppliment. What kind of insurance did you have?
