Starting week 4 today… I can say it’s been without obvious issues to date but skin is starting to react. I m not at all happy about radiating my body! It worries me. I had a local recurrence near the site of original tumor., in a mastectomy “breast” . In the space between the skin and implant necessitating a lumpectomy on a mastectomy!
The recurrence was small and downgraded from original but 3 rad oncology and 2 medical oncologists opined that radiation was now necessary.
Also a change from Anastrozole to exemestane. Verzenio ( early BC dose) has been discussed. Ugh

They told me that side effects usually happens during week 3 or 4. Continue apply cream to protect your skin to at least 2 weeks after. You’re doing as well as could be. It’s almost over. Does radiation affect your implant? I’m worried about long term effects of radiation, but the thought of cancer metastasis scares me more. I hope exemestane works better for you. I’m taking exemestane and have issues with joint pains and skin rashes which my onco doesn’t think skin problem is related to med, just because it hasn’t been reported as a side effect? Take one day at a time and continue doing things you enjoy. Wishing you all the best. Thanksgiving is coming soon!
Just wanted to share a bit of good news! I had reconstructive surgery a week ago. My original BCS was done 2 years ago. 1 year ago they were following a Birads 3 lymph node and possible new lesion. Those were downgraded to a 2 six months ago. This latest surgery was to reduce the size of the breast to better match the other. The plastic surgeon took tissue from 3 different areas. The lower inner & outer areas were to reduce the size. But while he was in there he took out some tissue that was at the original site of the DCIS where scar had formed. After surgery he told me he thought it would be okay, but sent it to pathology. Today’s pathology report showed no cancer.
I know this was a low stress situation, but just waiting on pathology is nerve wracking. So 2 years out, on tamoxifen, and nothing new. I love those words, “nothing new”! Carrot cake to celebrate tonight!
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your experience and concerns. Yep… nearing the end and I cannot wait! Eye on the ball… kill or mane any residual cells that may have been left behind! We play for the end goal and do the best we can.

Doing fine, is now over 2 yrs later. Like all of us, just hoping that it is all in the past forever!
Hope you are doing well with radiation.🤗
What was your treatment for local recurrence?

My treatment was a mastectomy of that breast (left). And I began anastrozole which I had not started, my own reluctance, after the first diagnosis.
